Brochure
Description: Brochure with one fold.
Date: Dec. 15, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Nikon D3200, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe
Illustrator, Adobe InDesign.
Objective: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality
images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in
Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows
the cutout shape of the image.
Process: I took the photos with my Nikon D3200 camera and
varying lenses. After that I processed them using Lightroom.
For the brochure layout and design I used to program InDesign.
I had previously designed my logo using Illustrator though. I
used paragraph styles to format my text and added a text
wrap on the inside of the brochure.

Logo
Description: Logo for an organization, in this case my photography
business.
Date: Nov. 1, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Objective: Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.
(No Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or livetracing.) Refine one logo with variations for color
Process: Basic design principles were used. The only program used
for this project was Adobe Illustrator. Inside the program I used they
type tool for my text and then transformed the text in to a shape and
continued to add a tail on to the s to make it match the k. From
there I used the circle tool to help perfect the tail by combining the
circle with the shape builder tool and erasing parts of the vector that
I did not need. I used the pen tool to add and subtract anchor points
when necessary and then also to add lines when needed.
Wedding Invitations
Description: A wedding invitation that potreys class.
Date: Nov. 18, 2015
Program used: Adobe Illustrator
Objective: Create a wedding invitation for a client that I also did
photography for. They wanted a classic yet modern feel to their
invitation.
Process: I used Adobe Ilustrator to create the invitation. I
used they type tool. Due to the time pressed deadline I used
resources for the vector leaves on the invite. I then had to
send the file to the printer in order to make sure that they
were able to print what I had designed. I outlined the typography because they did not have the font that I used.

Business Card
Description: Letterhead and business card for my
photography business.
Date: Nov. 7, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Objective: Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop
shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website,
and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in
phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.
Process: First I designed my logo in Illustrator and then from
there added design details to create the business card and
letterhead. I really wanted to use some type of different
typeography elements. That is why I decided to write on a
path with my Instagram handle. Right now this is the only
thing I have to display my work so I wanted this to be my
focal point.

Letterhead
Description: Letterhead and business card for my photography business.
Date: Nov. 7, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Objective: Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and
plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email
on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no
parentheses/ hyphens.
Process: First I designed my logo in Illustrator and then from there
added design details to create the business card and letterhead. I
wanted my logo to be incorperated on the main part of the letterhead.
So I made sure to use the trancperency tool to make the writing that
would go on top of that was legible.

Photodesign
Description: Demonstrate good photography and editing skills as well as
designing skills using Photoshop.
Date: Oct. 17, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom.
Objective: Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take
a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the
layout. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Process: First I had to take the picture, I used my Nikon D3200 camera
and shot this specific photo with a 50mm lens. After the photo was
imported in to my computer I used Lightroom for overview editing and
Photoshop for finishing touches. From there I used the design tools in
Photoshop to create the finished product. I mostly used the rectangle
tool and the eyedropper to grab existing colors that were in the photo
to create the color scheme that I used. I also used the textbox tool
to create the wording. Each one of these elements are created on a
different layer and then at the end the image was flattened to turn
the layers in to one complete product.

Montage
Description: Any montage project of combining two photos as well as
using typography.
Date: Oct. 24, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom.
Objective: Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using
masks. Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with
multiple elements. Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Process: For this project I used my Nikon D3200 with a 50mm lens for
both photos shot. I then used Lightroom for basic editing of contrast
and exposure. From there I took the portrait in to photo shop and
desaturated it just a little. I added another photo of the flowers and put
a mask on it, I liked the way it looked with the flowers behind her more
so I readjusted the layers in order to make it look this way. I placed
that typography in the lower right corner so it would not detract from
the womans face. I also turned the opacity down on the wording to
make it not as harsh.

Flier
Description: Gray scale promotional flier for a Graduate Leadership
Conference.
Date: Oct. 24, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Adobe InDesign
Objective: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve
image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep
links in InDesign intact.
Process: I started this process by drawing thought out sketches, using
boxes to show where images and wording would be placed. I then started
my first draft on InDesign by referring to my sketches as to where I had
wanted things to go. Upon completion I had two other people look at my
flier and had them use a guided critiquing process. After the critique
process I realized there were a lot of things I could do differently in order
to make my flier better. I went back in to InDesign with the critiques in
mind and revamped my design. I also used Photoshop to help soften the
image that I used giving it a more natural feel, instead of such a cut and
dry look. I left the white space in a flowing motion down to the bottom of
the page where the viewer would see location as well as where to register.

Event Ad
Description: Full bleed color event ad, promoting a fundraiser; designed
in Microsoft Word.
Date: Oct. 10, 2015
Course/Instructor: Comm 130, Joel Judkins
Programs/Tools: Microsoft Word
Objective: Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work
together) Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Process: I printed an image that I had personally taken and then
scanned it in to my computer. From there I placed the photo into the
Publishing Layout View of Microsoft word. From there I used tools in
the program to create text boxes that helped text to stand out and
catch the eye. I used three different boxes for repetition and aligned
them asymmetrically. Programs used: Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner,
PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter).
