1. OBJECTIVE:
METHOD OF STATEMENT
The main objective of this method of statement is to provide guidance for the
execution of construction of houses.
2. SCOPE:
This method of statement covers inspection and quality monitoring of
construction activities for houses based on approved engineering principles.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Area Incharge will ensure that the construction activities for the building are
conducted according to this method of statement, latest approved
construction drawings & project specification will be followed in true later in
sprit.
4. PROCEDURE:
All construction activities for building can be summarized in the following
manner.
5. SITE PREPARATION:
As the foundation work for all the structures for this site are already
complete. So that area around the structures will be properly prepared
for the accessibility of materials.
The surveyor (both Engineers & Contractor) will identify benchmarks
and finalize them jointly in accordance with all the terms and
conditions.
Before setting out any activity, all levels /elevations will be determined
first.
6. SETTING OUT/CARRYOUT:
The surveyor will layout before execution of any activity.
7. FORMWORK:
Before start of formwork, surveyor will mark the points/line and will
convey this information to area Foreman/Incharge.
Formwork surfaces would be cleaned.
After completion of formwork, the Engineer will be informed for
inspection and approval before placing of steel.
METHOD OF STATEMENT
Engineer will confirm the acceptance of this activity after review of
these items in writing.
8. STEEL REINFORCEMENT:
Bar bending schedule (BBS) will be prepared according to the drawings
& specification.
Cutting, bending & placing of steel will be as per BBS.
Bars will be visually inspected by Engineers & contractor.
Concrete spacer blocks will be used to ensure specified concrete cover
on steel reinforcement where required.
Supports will be provided where required to keep the reinforcement in
position.
Where anchor bolts or any embedded item, the foremen/site supervisor
will ensure that these arrangements are securely tied with rebar/welded.
Once the steel reinforcement is completed, the engineer will be
requested for necessary inspection and approval before concreting.
9. STRUCTURAL CONCRETE:
When the steel request approved by the Engineer in writing and
allowed for proceedings further then necessary arrangements will be
made for concreting.
An approved ready mix concrete supplier will supply the structural
concrete for approved mix design if necessary before transportation
concrete mix, the Engineer will requested to Visit the mixing site.
Concrete temperature shall be checked.
Temperature of water shall be checked.
Pouring will start after clearance from Engineers
Mechanical type of vibrator will be used for consolidation of concrete.
The size of the vibrator will be selected depending on volume of the
concrete in pour and space available.
Care will be taken to maintain the Engineering properties of concrete.
METHOD OF STATEMENT

Removal of formwork will be in accordance with the authorize
limitation for achieving the desired strength of concrete.
A due care will be adopted to avoid any damage to concrete during
removal of formwork.
11.
TERMITE TREATMENT:
The chemical used for anti-termite proofing would be got approved
from Engineer.
Once the approval from the Engineer is obtained, then the termite
proofing will be carried out where required, i.e Timbering, under the
floor foundations before and after earth filling.

PROTECTIVE COATING:
After completion of the curing period, hessian cloth will be removed.
Application of 2 coats of approved bitumen paint shall be carried out at
required places.
The acceptance criteria for protective coating will be according to the
relevant specification as approved by Engineer.

CONCRETE CURING:
Immediately after pouring & completion of the surface finishing in any
section, the exposed surfaces shall be left for the hardening.
Freshly placed concrete floor shall be placed protected to prevent loss
of water by covering with damp hessian cloth.
Concrete shall be kept constantly damp for to authorize the desired
strength as mentioned in specification
Concrete pouring date & time will be written on each sample.
12.
FORMWORK REMOVAL:
BACKFILLING:
The backfill material will be sourced from suitable/approved site.
Backfilling material will be placed in layers according to the
specifications
The layers will be moisturized and compacted to 95% compaction
Compactions will be done by compactors
The compacted surface will be approved by Engineer on request.
METHOD OF STATEMENT
An acceptable test layer approved by Engineers will allow the next
layer of backfill to be placed.
This process will continue until the structure is completely backfilled.
15.
After completion of termite treatment, Bitumen coating & Backfilling,
following steps will be followed.
Lean concrete 2 thick will be placed on compacted fill material
After curing of 2 PCC blinding, polythene sheet of 1000 gauge shall be
placed.
BRC wire mesh (200X200X6mm) on concrete spacer block.
Placing of concrete for concrete flooring/SOG

CEMENT & CONCRETE FLOORING
FLOORING/Tilling
Approval of tiles from Engineer before fixing at site. Following
procedure will be followed.
Placing of ceramic tiles in water
Surface preparation & cleaning of concrete floor
Marking of levels & Layout
Fixing/placing of tiles will be carried out with Portland cement (Grey)
and Engineer will be requested to inspect and approve the quality of
fixing before proceeding further.
17.
BLOCK MASONRY
After approval of quality of PCC block (Hollow) by Engineer, the following
method/procedure will be adopted.
Layout & surface preparation.
Vertical Anchorage with Hillti drill machine 3/8 steel.
1 coarse of hollow block will be filled with 1:5 cement mortor
Anchorage for masonry with steel.
All mortar for masonry shall be in the proportion of one part of the
cement to the 6th part of sand i.e 1:5
Sand shall be clean, hard & durable.
All masonry shall be laid in English bond.
All masonry work should be true to the line, plumb & level.
Chases, grooves & racked out joints shall be kept free from mortar &
debris.
METHOD OF STATEMENT
All vertical & horizontal joints shall be completely and solidly filled with
mortar as and when blocks are laid.
The thickness of the joints shall not exceed 3/8, and the joints shall be
laid deep when the mortar is still fresh.
Masonry shall be cured for at least 10 days.
Mortar ingredients shall be mixed by hand.
Activities shall be executed after approval of Engineer.
18.
The plumbing work will be carried out based on the drawings/design
and specification being part of contract document agreement.
The activity will be got approved from Engineer before and after.
Necessary tests of required or advice by Engineer will be carried out
during/after completion of activity.
The drawings/layout would strictly be followed and necessary
consent/approval of Engineer will be sought if applicable in terms of
conditions of contract.
19.
ELECTRIFICATION
The electrical wire/conduit sample will be approved by Engineer as per
contract/specification.
The Electrification work will be carried out based on the
drawings/design and specification being part of contract document
agreement.
Once the approval is received for wiring, then the actual work would be
started based on the drawing & specifications.
20.
PLUMBING WORK
CEMENT PLASTER
After Check out of all electric conduits, back boxes, drain pipes,
sanitary pipes, doors, windows & ventilators.
Walls shall be kept damp before applying plaster.
The minimum thickness of the plaster shall be -3/4
Cutting of concrete if required.
Chipping of concrete surfaces
Fixing of wire mesh on block masonry and concrete joint
Layout & marking for plaster thickness
Quality of mixing will be ensured before carryout.
Curing of cement plaster for 10 days.
METHOD OF STATEMENT
Activities shall be executed after approval of Engineer.
Engineer will be requested to visit and approve the quality of plaster
carried out.
21.
PAINTING
The approved quality of paint as mentioned i.e make, type or color etc would
be used after approval from Engineer. The authorized procedure for
application of painting is as under
All oil, grease, dirt, dust, loose mil scale and any other foreign
substances shall be removed from the surface to be painted &
polished.
All paint & coating material shall be in a thoroughly mixed condition at
the time of application.
All work shall be done in a work man like manners, leaving the finished
free from drips, redges, waves, laps brush marks.
All paints shall be applied under dry and dust free conditions.
Surface shall be free from moisture at the time of painting.
All primary paints shall be applied by brushing.
The first coat of the paint shall be applied immediately after cleaning.
Each coat of paint shall be allowed to dry or harden thoroughly before
the succeeding coat is applied.
Only as much material shall be mixed as can be used up in one hour,
over thinning will not be permitted.
22.
FALSE CEILING
Check out electrical, plumbing, air-conditioning and heating system
before execution of job.
Layout & Marking for framing the false ceiling will be shown to
Engineer.
After completing the concealed items like, plumbing, wiring, piping for
cooling and heating etc, and then the false ceiling activity will be
started after approval from Engineer.
The work will be started as per the authorize procedure for false
ceiling.
