This assignment involves the production of a professional report based on the background to
meet the requirements of the assignment below. The assignment will cover the first and
second outcomes and its respective elements of this unit and will be presented in a single

Background
It is the information agea time when knowledge is power. Today, more than ever, businesses are using
information (and information technology) to gain and sustain a competitive advantage. Organizations have
always depended on information to ensure success. Over the years, organizations have changed their
information systems from dealing purely with data processing to strategic and decision support. Managers
need information to plan successfully in the short, medium and long term. It is also recognized nowadays
that information is required at all levels in an organization and that information itself can have many
sources. The importance of valid information in gaining competitive advantage needs to be stressed.
Not only large organizations like Wal-MartSUNINGDELL but also small organizations like the library in
our school can benefit most from the using of information technologies and systems in gaining competitive

as organization structure diagram.
(2) Evaluate the different information needs of each functional area through the inputsoutputs and
processing activities.
(3) Analyze the strategic, tactical, operational information needs for the chosen organization.
(4) Analyze the information distribution requirements eg. location, department, individual.
