DEVOTIONAL PRAYERS

DEVOTIONS DURING THE WEEK

The prayers provided here may be said
after some private devotions, or after you
pray in the morning or evening. It also
may be said throughout the day, with
every prayer concludes in praise of the
Blessed Trinity or of the Blessed Virgin.
The texts provided are drawn from the
current Roman Missal. The other prayers,
which are found from the 1965 Missal, are
also added as an appendix.

Sunday or Monday
DEVOTION IN HONOR OF THE
MOST HOLY TRINITY
Attend Mass, and if possible, Communion.
Cultivate in your heart a great zeal for one
and triune God.

God our Father,

who, by sending into the world the
Word of truth and the Spirit of
sanctification,
made known to the human race
your wondrous mystery,
grant us, we pray, that in professing
the true faith we may acknowledge
the Trinity of eternal glory and adore
your Unity, powerful in majesty.
Through Christ our Lord.

And the Glory be is said three times.

Monday
DEVOTION FOR THE SOULS IN
PURGATORY
Pray for the souls of your relatives, friends
and Godparents. Make a visit to a
cemetery.

God, Creator and Redeemer of

all the faithful, grant to your
departed servants
the remission of all their sins,
so that through our devout
supplications
they may obtain that pardon which
they have always desired.
Through Christ our Lord.

Tuesday
DEVOTION IN HONOR OF THE
HOLY GUARDIAN ANGELS
Pray often to your Guardian Angel asking
for help.

God, who in your

unfathomable providence are
pleased to send your holy
Angels to guard us,

hear our supplication as we cry to you,

that we may always be defended by
their protection
and rejoice eternally in their company.
Through Christ our Lord.
Or this other prayer, in honor of all the
Angels:

O God, who dispose in marvelous order

ministries both angelic and human,
graciously grant that our life on earth may
be defended by those who watch over us
as they minister perpetually to you in
heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.
The prayer Angel of God may be said.

Or, during Tuesdays:

IN HONOR OF
SAINT ANTHONY OF PADUA,
DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH

Almighty ever-living God,

who gave Saint Anthony of Padua to

your people
as an outstanding preacher
and an intercessor in their need,
grant that, with his assistance,
as we follow the teachings of the
Christian life,
we may know your help in every trial.

Wednesday
DEVOTION IN HONOR OF
SAINT JOSEPH,
SPOUSE OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
Pray to Saint Joseph so that you may
obtain a good and holy death.

God, who in your inexpressible

providence
were pleased to choose Saint Joseph
as spouse of the most holy Mother of
your Son,
grant, we pray,
that we, who revere him as our
protector on earth,

may be worthy of his heavenly

intercession.
Through Christ our Lord.

Or, during Wednesdays,

DEVOTION IN HONOR OF THE
BLESSED VIRGIN OF PERPETUAL HELP
In many places, such as the Philippines,
honor Mary under this title, the Perpetual
Help. Let us ask Marys intercession to
seek the assisting help of God.

O Lord Jesus Christ,

we venerate the wondrous picture of
your Mother Mary.
You gave her to be our mother also,
always ready to help us.
Grant that we who earnestly implore
her motherly assistance may be
worthy to enjoy the eternal fruit of
your redemption.
Who lives and reigns forever.

Throughout the day, say many Spiritual
Communions. One may make a visit to the
Blessed Sacrament.

God, who in this wonderful

Sacrament

your Body and Blood

ourselves
the fruits of your redemption.
Who lives and reigns forever.
Or during Thursdays,

JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL HIGH

PRIEST

God, who have accomplished the

work of human redemption
through the Paschal Mystery of your
Only Begotten Son,

confidently proclaim, under
sacramental signs, the Death and
Resurrection of Christ, may experience
continued increase of your saving
grace.
Who lives and reigns forever.

THE BLESSED PASSION AND DEATH
OF OUR LORD JESUS
Using the Way of the Cross, meditate in
the Passion of our Lord. Unite with Him
your sufferings, troubles and trials.

God, who willed that your Only

Begotten Son
should undergo the Cross to save the
human race,

on earth,
may merit the grace of his redemption
in heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.
Or during Fridays,
DEVOTION IN HONOR OF
THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF OUR
LORD

God, who by the Precious Blood

of your Only Begotten Son
have redeemed the whole world,
preserve in us the work of your mercy,
so that, ever honoring the mystery of
our salvation,
we may merit to obtain its fruits.
Through Christ our Lord.

A short invocation may be said, such as

Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner or
an Act of Contrition.

Saturday
DEVOTION IN HONOR OF
THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Pray the Rosary or practice another Marian
devotion.

rant, we pray, almighty God, that

your faithful,
who rejoice under the patronage of the
most holy Virgin Mary,
may be freed by her motherly
intercession
from all evils on earth
and merit the attainment of eternal
joys in heaven.
Through Christ our Lord.
Except during Easter Season:

God, who have been pleased to

gladden the world
by the Resurrection of your Son our
Lord Jesus Christ,
grant, we pray,
that through his Mother, the Virgin
Mary,
we may receive the joys of everlasting
life.
Through Christ our Lord.
Pray the Angelus or sing a hymn in
honor of Mary.
APPENDIX
Other Prayers for Everyday Devotion
1 In Honor of the Blessed Trinity
Almighty and ever-living God,
who have permitted us, your servants,
in our profession of the true Faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the
eternal Trinity,
and in the power of that majesty to
adore the Unity,

grant that by steadfastness in this

same faith,
we may be guarded against all
adversity.
Through Christ our Lord.
2 Of Saint Anthony of Padua, Doctor
May your Church, O Lord, rejoice on
the occasion of the solemn
commemoration of your blessed
confessor and doctor Anthony: so that
she may be always protected by your
divine help and may her members on
day be worthy of eternal happiness.
Through Christ our Lord.

3 Of All the Holy Apostles

O God,
your blessed apostles brought us to
the knowledge of your holy name.
May our progress in virtue and honor
to their eternal glory,
and may the honor we pay them make
us even more holy.
Through Christ our Lord.
Or, from the Roman Missal of Third Typical
Edition:

May your Church always exult, O Lord,

in the honor given through the ages to
the blessed Apostles,
that she may be guided by these
protectors,
in whose teaching and merits she
finds joy.
Through Christ our Lord.

3 - Of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles

O God, by your right hand you
sustained blessed Peter as he walked
upon the water, and prevented him
from sinking;
you also delivered his fellow apostle
Paul from the
depths of the sea when he was
shipwrecked the third time.
Graciously hear us and grant that we
may obtain the glory of eternal life
through the merits of these two saints:
You who live and reign, forever.
Or, from the Roman Missal of Third Typical
Edition:

Grant, we pray, O Lord our God,

that we may be sustained by the
intercession
of the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul,
that, as through them you gave your
Church
the foundations of her heavenly office,
so through them you may help her to
eternal salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.

3 Of One Holy Apostle

We humbly implore your majesty, O
Lord,
that, just as the blessed Apostle N.
was for your Church a preacher and
pastor,
so he may be for us a constant
intercessor before you.
Through Christ our Lord.
Or, from the Roman Missal of Third Typical
Edition:

Strengthen in us, O Lord, the faith,

by which the blessed Apostle N.
clung wholeheartedly to your Son,
and grant that through the help of his
prayers
your Church may become for all the
nations
the sacrament of salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.

4 Of the Holy Spirit

O God, who have taught the hearts of
the faithful by the light of the Holy
Spirit,
grant that in the same Spirit we may
be truly wise
and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Through Christ our Lord.
For seeking the grace of the Holy Spirit

O God, to whom every heart lies open,

every desire speaks plainly
and from whom no secret is hidden,
cleanse, we pray, the thoughts of our
heart
by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit,
that we may merit to love you
perfectly
and offer you worthy praise.
Through Christ our Lord.
5 - Of the Passion of our Lord
O Lord Jesus Christ,
you came from the bosom of your
Father in heaven and shed your
precious blood on earth for the
remission of sins.
We humbly beg that we may be
worthy on judgment day
to stand at your right hand and hear
your words, "Come, you blessed":
You who live and reign, forever.

Or:
O Lord Jesus Christ,
who descended from heaven from the
bosom of the Father,
and to earth, by your precious blood,
for the forgiveness of sins,
we humbly beseech you,
so that on the day of judgment,
we may hear standing on your right
hand: "Come, you blessed".
Who lives and reigns with God the
Father.
5 Of the Sacred Heart
O God, who in the Heart of your Son,
wounded by our sins,
bestow on us in mercy
the boundless treasures of your love,
grant, we pray,
that, in paying him the homage of our
devotion,
we may also offer worthy reparation.
Through Christ our Lord.
Or, from the Roman Missal of Third Typical
Edition:

Clothe us, Lord God,

with the virtues of the Heart of your
Son
and set us aflame with his love,
that, conformed to his image,
we may merit a share in eternal
redemption.
Through Christ our Lord.
