SCHOOL KITS
FOR JULY & AUGUST
Imagine having to choose
between a meal or purchasing a notebook.
Project Promise School Kits are sent to
places where even the few required school
supplies may be more than a family can
afford. Pencils and paper can help write a
positive future. Each school kit should
include:
(4) 70-sheet notebooks (wide or college
ruled)
(1) ruler (inches & centimeters)
(1) safety scissors (blunt end)
(1) pencil sharpener
(5) pencils (secured by a rubber band)
(5) black or blue pens (no gel; secure with
rubber band)
(1) box of 16 or 24 crayons
(1) 2 eraser
GET FIRED UP!
On August 21 we will be sampling the finest
of the bestest BBQers and pie bakers as part
of our GET FIRED UP Rally Day activities. If
you would be interested in putting your best
recipe for the grill or oven on the table to be
judged by all attending, watch for the signup sheet in the west hallway. Be sure to
save the date on your calendar, too, and

you to the Oldies & Goodies Car Show &

showcase their rides starting at 9:30 AM with

delicious dishes will be shared, so bring your
favorite goodies, and join in the fun! If your last
name begins with A-M, please bring a main dish
and a salad to share. If you are an N-Z, a main

JULY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
The St. John's Congregation Council approved
moving forward to host an adult education offering to
be held in October, possibly three Tuesday evenings
that month. Ecumenical partners from the community
would be teachers and participants with some
interesting topics being taught and discussed. Watch
for further details.
The council heard about upcoming August
and September events being planned. They include
Folks and Forks - the annual NeLCM event; Get Fired
Up - Rally Sunday for the commencement of Sunday
School as well as Vacation Bible School and God's
Work - Our Hands day of service. More details will be
provided and we hope everyone will participate as they
are able in these community events.
Plans continue to be made for the
December 11th 50 Years on the Hill celebration. This
will be a wonderful day of celebration of our 50th
anniversary of the first worship service held in the
present church building.
The council is hoping that each of you will find a
spot or two to add your energy to the various
opportunities to participate and serve this fall.
A complete copy of the minutes is available by
mail or email by contacting the church office.
Thank you all for the kindness shown my family and
me on the death of my mother, Adeline. Hearing of
her passing while a continent away is a jarring event
but being greeted with your thoughts and prayers was
especially comforting. Thanks to the council and staff
for the beautiful flower arrangement, for your cards
and social media comments, and to everyone in our
church community. St. Johns will always hold a
special place in our hearts.

TIME TO THINK ABOUT THE
NORFOLK FOOD PANTRY
Its time again to consider all the ways we
are community and think about how to serve
at the Norfolk Food Pantry in September. St.
Johns supports the pantry by donations of
non-perishable food items, monetary gifts to
purchase the perishable foods, and by
volunteers who sack groceries during
September for two hours each weekday
morning (9:30-11:30 am).
* Non-perishable food may be left in the
collection boxes in the west hall, the narthex
and by the church office.
* Monetary gifts (placed in an envelope
designated Food Pantry) may be placed in
the offering plate or dropped off in the
church office.
* To give of your time to help at the
pantry, check todays Registration Slip or
call Shirley Frowick @ 402-644-7882.
There is always a need for helpers. Please
strongly consider helping!
Thank you also for your donations of egg
cartons and plastic grocery bags which are
used daily at the pantry.
