Textile Finishing Techniques

This document discusses the classification of textile finishes. It begins by explaining that finishing is the final step that enhances the quality, appearance, feel and functionality of fabrics. There are three main types of finishes: aesthetic finishes change the look or feel of fabrics, functional finishes improve durability and performance, and chemical and mechanical finishes use chemicals or machinery to create permanent or durable changes to fabrics. Finishes are also classified as permanent, durable, semi-durable or temporary based on how long their effects last through cleaning cycles. The overall purpose of finishing is to prepare fabrics for end use by improving properties like strength, appearance and special characteristics.
