(about the cool me) Presentational Speaking: Assessment to be done on a different day: Students will be
giving a presentation to the class in which they will speak about themselves. In this particular presentation, they will
imagine that they have travelled many different places and seen many things. Using their knowledge of activities discussed
in a previous class, travel with country names, and the past particle guo, they will tell their classmates where theyve gone
and what theyve done in those different places. They will also create a ppt with pictures to emphasize their presentation.

Stage Three - Participants: Teacher (T )-; Class (C); Small group (SS, SS); Student-to-student (SS) Individual student
(S) Differentiation: in green. Student choice/expansion: in yellow. Formative checks: in Blue
(5 mins) T will begin by introducing the topic of travel and languages, pointing to the pictures on the ppt and
emphasizing with examples. C will repeat the words after T. T will show some pictures of himself travelling to different
countries. On each slide he will have a picture of himself, a picture of the country, a sentence and the pronunciation. T
will as S if they have also been to that country. He will intentionally pick at least one who has and one who hasnt for each. T
will emphasize the pronunciation of and encourage repetition of words as necessary. T will explain with hand signals/acting as
necessary.
(5 mins) - After talking about himself, C will review what they have understood thus far, going one by one as class says what it
means. T will use previous examples to encourage class to figure out what guo country means.
(5 mins) - T will show students a slide with the different activities previously discussed and a couple new ones. The slide will
have pictures corresponding to each activity and the word in both characters and pinyin (Romanized script) appearing as you
click. For each one, students will repeat the pronunciation after T and T will ask a couple students if they like to do that
activity. T will also introduce the word yu language, which students will learn to use with country names to make into the
language name. T will ask the example using German, asking the class if they speak German. C will go through the slide of
countries and for each country T will have students say what country it is, but will now also ask them what language they
speak there. For China the answer is different so he will have to clarify.
(8 mins) Info gap - Counselor hunt - Class will be given a list of answers. For each of these answers, C will need to find
someone (scavenger hunt style) that falls into each category. They will have to ask people if theyve traveled to certain places
and will also have to ask them what languages they speak. If they get the right answer from someone, that person will write
their name in the box. If they dont, they will have to find someone who fits the category. After all students have filled in their
boxes, C will debrief with some questions from the T about who they found out (whos traveled where, who speaks what, etc.)
(2 mins) Exit ticket - on the back of their scavenger hunt activity sheet is an Exit ticket. Each student will have to complete the
two sentences using combinations of country names and languages from the box at the bottom.
