Unit 7. Nature Fury CM

A powerful tornado struck six states in the Gulf of Mexico region in April 2011. The Joplin tornado was particularly devastating, killing 283 people as it tossed buildings, cars, and pavement through the air with winds over 260 mph. Fueled by unusually warm water in the Gulf combined with a collision of warm, wet air and downward cooler air, the mile-wide Tuscaloosa tornado was also especially intense as it traveled over 300 miles.
