FABRIC TYPES
CHAMBRAY :
Chambray is a double-ply cotton, made from a dyed warp (the vertical thread) and a white
filling (the horizontal thread) with either carded or combed yarns being used.
ORIGIN :
The name Chambray actually originates from Cobrai or Cambrai, the city in north
France where it was originally woven for farmers wardrobes, used to create
sunbonnets, first used in 1595.
In the past Chambray was the fabric choice for the working mans blue shirt, this
became more and more popular as a working cloth and thus the term blue-collar
worker was born, which more than proves its heritage as a work wear fabric.
It is also known as both Cambric and as Batiste in some parts of the world.
