Carded or Combed Yarn Is Used. Double-Ply Yarn

Chambray is a double-ply cotton fabric made from a dyed warp thread and a white filling thread. It originated in Cambrai, France in the 1590s, where it was woven for farmer's clothing such as sunbonnets. Chambray became popular as the fabric of choice for the working man's blue shirt, contributing to the term "blue-collar worker." While originally made from flax, chambray is now most commonly cotton or a cotton-polyester blend, using carded or combed yarn that is double-ply and s-twist, resulting in an almost square thread count.
