OilTemperature Indicator, OTI
Series 34
GENERAL
The Oil Temperature Indicator Series 34
measures the top-oil temperature. It is a
standard accessory for cooling, control and
protection on all transformers.
Winding Temperature
Indicator, WTI Series 35
GENERAL
The life of the transformer depends on the
winding temperature because the winding
temperature is determinating for the
temperature and deterioration of the insulating
material
Due to the high electric potential of the
winding, itis not practical to measure the
winding temperature directly

By making a "Thermal Image" of the winding
‘our Winding Temperature Indicator, WTI-
Series 35, simulates the winding temperature.
‘The WTI is basically an Oil Temperature
Indicator, OTI Series 34, with a specially
designed heating element connected to the
current transformer (C.T.).
For safe overloading of a transformer our WTI
is a necessary protection device
OPERATING PRINCIPLES
Please refer to pictures of the operating
principles on page 4.
‘The temperature of the winding depends on
the transformer load, (ie. current through
winding) and the temperature of the cooling
medium - the ol
These two parameters are measured and
made to interact in the instrument. The oil
temperature is measured as usual with a bulb
in the pocket
The measuring system also has a specially
designed heating element, to measure the
transformer load. This heating element is a
thermal model of the winding.
The heating element is. connected to the
current transformer (CT) via a Matching
Resistance TD76 or a Matching Unit. See
Page 4.
CALIBRATION
Calibration is based on information (from
heatrun test) about the gradient (difference
between winding- and top oil temperature) and
the corresponding output from the current
transformer (CT)
Graph TDS2 (see page 5) indicates the
current required (!) through the heating
element to give a corresponding gradient.
The current, to the heating element, can then
be calibrated either with Matching
Resistance TD76 or Matching Unit to this,
Value. Calibration is only necessary for one
known relation between load and gradient
TECHNICAL DATA
GENERAL
This product is designed for Power
transformers.
Its a special construction for long life, heavy
duty and maintenance free control ofthe oll
(OT) and winding- (WT) temperature.
itis made for outdoor mounting directly on the
transformer in any climate, tropical as well as
arctical
Al parts are made of non-corrosive or surface
treated material.
‘A powerful measuring system secures the
safe and accurate operation of the high
Capacity contacts
Besides the basic models, described in this
bulletin, many accesoris are available. For
example:
“Transmitter for remote indication (see TD66
and T0114).
“Earthquake-proof execution (see TD101).
Extreme climate execution.
