Playwriting Project
Project #2
Objective
You will successfully attempt to write a conflict scene. Each group will write a ten
minute original scene that follows the guidelines listed below. You will have time during
class to work on this scene; however, you will need to meet outside of class to complete
your project.
Project description
Your scene should be about a real life situation that has happened or could
happen. Make it interesting for the reader. Your character or characters must have a
clear goal and obstacles that gets in the way of achieving that goal. Before you begin,
outline your goals and conflicts. Make sure you know what you want to do.
1. A 10 minute scene with 2-4 characters.
2. Clear goals.
3. Specific obstacles.
4. Indicate time and location of the scene.
5. All scenes must be typed out or emailed to me by the due date listed on the course
outline.
Goal (objectives): A goal is what your character wants? This goal must be definable
and very clear. The reason why your character needs a goal is that it makes your
character take a journey and be proactive about achieving his or her goal. Your
character is not passively letting events unfold around him or her.
Conflict (obstacles): The conflicts are a series of obstacles that your character faces on
the way to reaching his or her goal. Every scene must have conflict or it will be boring
and loose the interest of the reader/audience. Your character needs to struggle to
achieve his or her goal.
Disaster: A disaster is failure to achieve your goal. Winning can be boring. Your
character doesnt always have to achieve his or her goal. If things are always going
well, your reader will get bored.
