Soviet Submarine Exhibit Insight

1) A Soviet submarine nicknamed "Scorpion" that once operated in the Pacific for the Russian Navy has been docked alongside the Queen Mary in Long Beach since 1998 but closed to the public since 2015. 2) The Scorpion was one of 62 Foxtrot class submarines built for the Soviet Navy between the late 1950s and early 1970s, making it one of the largest diesel and electrically powered underwater vessels in the Soviet fleet at the time. 3) The future of the Scorpion submarine as a tourist attraction in Long Beach is uncertain as it does not appear to be part of the city's long-term development plans around the Queen Mary.
