ART 1
2017/18 SYLLABUS
Mission Statement:
El Capitan High School is committed to developing 21st century leaders who
demonstrate integrity, honor, and compassion as they gain the academic and
technological skills needed to achieve excellence in college and career.
Grading:
Work will be graded on:
- Fulfilment of assignment- did you complete the work?
- Creativity- Are you thinking outside of the box?
- Presentation - Is the paper folded, wrinkled, stained, torn?
- Technique- Are you following the instructions to produce the artwork in the way I
teach you?
- Improvement- Are you getting better and better or lazier?
70% of your grade will be based on your artwork itself and if you followed the five
requirements above.
30% will be based upon your daily performance and if you are on task working
every day.
If you goof off or work on other school work during this class your participation
grade will be affected.
Extra credit will be specific and assigned accordingly. Take advantage of this, it
will help your grade tremendously!
A= 90%-100%
B= 80%-89%
C= 70%-79%
D= 60%-69%
F= 0%-59%
Homework- The only homework I give is homework you create. You may not take your
artwork home until we are finished with it in class. So if my assignment is two weeks
long you will not be able to take your artwork home until that second Friday of that week
and then you will have until that third Friday to turn in your artwork for a full grade. This
is on a case by case basis. If you werent using your time wisely, you will not be
given permission to take work home. If you do take it home and forget it your grade
will be affected for the day because you will be wasting a whole period without your
artwork.
Class Expectations:
When the bell rings, you must be in your assigned seat with your materials
ready. If you are anywhere but in your seat, you will be considered tardy.
Please see page 15 of the agenda for the school wide policy. Tardies and
unexcused absences will negatively affect your grade.
Each student is expected to prepare for, attend and participate in each class or
lab. There is a strong correlation between attendance and performing well in the
course. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class. Please make me
aware of any special circumstances you may have.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what assignments you
missed. Check with classmates or my teacher website. You have two days with
an excused absence for each day absent to make up the work you missed; one
day for an unexcused absence. Assignments given before your absence are due
on the day you return. You will have one week to make up missed tests or
quizzes. All coursework is posted at amadorart.weebly.com
Cheating on any assignment will result in a zero.
Classroom Rules graded on the 30% participation
You are assigned a seat all year long, if you decide to wander tables or sit in a
seat that is not yours you will be warned/and or penalized with a detention. I will
have Free Fridays that will be rewarded as a Free seating chart only after I take
role if your class as a whole behaves. You must stay in your seat when the bell
rings while I take role and I will let you all know when you can get up to get your
artwork and materials out.
NO Food and ONLY CAPPED DRINKS IN CLASS.
Restroom use is only permitted if you ask me and I give you a hall pass
(phone must stay near bathroom log). No more than five min per student and only one
student at a time. If you exceed five min I will call a Liaison to come find you and you
will loose your future bathroom privilege. Other students are waiting for you to come
back so they may use the restroom, because I only allow one student out at a time.
Pencil- All I ask from you as far as required supplies goes is bringing a pencil
every day. If you need to borrow one ask your neighbor. If you need to borrow
one from me remember you are getting germs from other kids that also borrowed
this pencil and you must give me your student ID in exchange.
No talking while Ms. Amador or your peer is talking. When you hear my bell ring,
you should be facing forward and earbuds must be out of your ears.
You are welcome to listen to music in your ears, not out loud, when I am
done giving instructions for the day and you are ready to work on art. You must
put your music on a shuffle list with a phone or chromebook. If you are using your
cell phone you must put your phone away where I can not see it like a pocket.
Your phone must also be placed on a shuffle list.
No Cell Phone other than music in my classroom. If I see you texting I will warn
you once, and I will send you to IC a second time.
Respect others, their property and their projects, otherwise DO NOT TOUCH
WHAT IS NOT YOURS!
All voices and conversations must be at an inside table tone not classroom tone.
All Backpacks and Chromebooks off your desk! We have water for painting and
messy supplies that can harm your chromebooks and you need a clean space to
work on art. To be creative it must be a clean space. Put your stuff on the back
counters or under your tables.
All artwork must have your first and last name printed on the bottom right hand
side of your artwork on the back of the art so if you need to start over you can
use the other side of your paper! Not to mention theft is a very big problem in an
art class. You must have your name in pen to protect yourself. I will mark down
your grade if you turn your work in with your name in pencil.
If I catch a student stealing another students artwork I will fail the student for the
assignment.
Work until the 5 minute bell rings. When we paint I will make it 10 min before bell
rings.
No drawing on tables!
All students must stay in seats until final bell rings. NO STANDING by the door.
Participation points will be docked.
