There are three ways to say preference in English:


a. Would rather
b. Prefer
c. Like.. Better

1. Would rather means prefer. It is followed directly by a verb and then the comparative word
than
Examples
1. I would rather ride a bicycle than motorcycle
2. Buhari would rather play soccer than football
3. Hed rather read a good book than see a movie

2. Prefer
1. Prefer . To .. (For Noun)
2. Prefer . To .. (For Gerund)
3. Prefer . To .. (For Infinitive)

Examples
1. She prefers apples to mangoes
2. Buhari prefers riding his bike to driving his car
3. The students would prefer to take the English test tomorrow than today

3. Like better than means to like something more than something else
Septian likes football better than baseball
Friski likes grapes better than rambutan

Read this dialogue and then identify the expression of preference!
Willy : Hi Budi! I havent seen you for ages. Where have you been?
Budi : I have been from Bali recently.
Willy : Bali? What a beautiful island. I am going to go to Bali next month.
Budi : I hope you enjoy going there. By the way, how will you go there?
Willy : perhaps I will go there by motorcycle.
Budi : why dont you drive your car to Bali?
Willy : I prefer riding my motor to driving my car. What about you?
Budi : I would rather go there by bus than motor. It is saver
