Listening Comprehension
Part 1: Picture: 20 Questions You will hear 4 short statements about a picture. Choose the
statement that best describes what you see in the picture.

Strategies Tricks

1. Don’t listen to the instructions. Similar sounds

Part 2: Question Response: 30 Questions You will hear a question and three responses. Choose
the correct response.

There are two kinds of questions: Similar words used in answer


1. Question word (asking for information): Who, what, Who came first? She spoke first.
when, where, why, how many/much/long/far His name is last on the list. 
2. Auxiliaries (asking for a yes/no answer): is, are, was, I arrived before the others. 
were, can, will, etc. The correct answer often uses synonyms.
(came/arrived)
Listen carefully to the first word of the question and
decide what it is asking. Yes or No are not often used.
Are you going? Of course. 
Think about what kind of answer is correct. Not til tomorrow. 
If you go, too. 
Part 3: Short Conversations: 30 Questions You will hear short conversations between two people.
You will read a question about each conversation. Choose the best answer.
