Steroids: Understanding Causes, Effects, and Information

Steroids are synthetic substances similar to the male sex hormone testosterone. They can have legitimate medical uses when prescribed by a doctor to treat conditions like anemia. However, without a prescription they are illegal. Steroids come in anabolic and androgenic varieties and can be taken topically, orally, or through injection. While steroids may provide short term benefits like increased strength, long term use can negatively impact health by decreasing penis size, causing "roid rage," and potentially damaging organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys. Overall steroids should only be used under medical supervision.

Steroids

Understanding Causes, Effects, and Information

Introduction
-Synthetic substances similar to the male sex hormone, Testosterone.

-Can sometimes have legitimate medical uses:Sometimes doctors prescribe

anabolic steroids to help people with certain kinds of anemia(condition when blood
lacks enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin), and when men cant produce
enough testosterone on their own.

-Without medical prescription from a doctor, they are illegal.

Types
-Anabolic: Comes in varieties, include but are not limited to:Anadrol, Oxandrin,
Dianabol.Anabolic processes are responsible for bone and muscle tissue
growth. For instance, breaking down proteins into amino acids in order to
strengthen and grow lean muscle tissues.

-Androgenic: Responsible for male traits and their regulation. Testosterone is main
androgenic hormone found in both genders. Practically responsible for features
that occur during Puberty.
How are they taken/given?
-Topically: Cream or ointment.

-Orally:Like a pill, vitamin, or gummy.

-Injection: Needles, injected into a vein or muscle, directly into joint or around
tendons and other soft tissue areas.
Causes
-Medical: Treats certain conditions such as Systematic Vasculitis, Myositis, and
Arthritis. These are inflammations of either muscles or blood vessels.

-Personal: Many take steroids to improve their muscle strength, endurance, and
overall athletic performance. For instance, you see steroids rampant in sports and
in weightlifters, even some conjecture about actors using them.

-Once again, unless prescribed by a doctor for health reasons, this is illegal and
abusive to the body.
Positive Effects
-If used in a reasonable quantity and proper steps are taken, perhaps along with
medical supervision,it is not highly probable to cause grave harm to a person.

-Improvement of physical factors such as vision, strength, endurance, recovery

time, can lower body fat, and protect red blood cells.

-Also, certain steroids can treat certain conditions. Ex: Osteoperosis, fortifies the
bones.
Negative Effects
-Decrease penis size, roid rage, eye damage, hair damage, severe acne, heart
problems, stomach issues, kidney damage, high blood pressure.
