OB52 – Month-End Posting Period Closing/Opening Manual

Overview:
Transaction OB52 is used to close and open accounting posting periods. During the month-
end closing process the current posting period is closed, and the next posting period is
opened.

Transaction:
OB52 – Maintain Posting Periods

Field Description:

Field name Description

A Account types with the following options;


+ (All Accounts)
A (Assets)
D (Customers)
K (Vendors)
M (Materials),
S (G/L Accounts).

From Acc. To Account In these Columns, General ledger accounts are entered which
represents a range of general ledgers to be opened and closed
for each account type.

From Period This is the beginning of the period range

Year This is the beginning of the fiscal year range

To Period This represents the end of the period range. The from posting
period to posting period form a range of posting period for
which we want to enter open posting periods
Year This represents the end of the fiscal year range. The from year
to year represent a range of year for which we want to open
posting periods.

AuGr This represents a group of privilege users which open periods in


interval one applies to.

NOTE:
1. Transaction OB52 is also used to open and close posting periods for a special
authorization group (privilege users) differently from regular users.

2. There are two period intervals in the posting period table. Interval one controls
periods opened for privilege users and Interval 2 controls periods opened for all
users.

EXAMPLE

For this example, Period 12 2017 and Period 1 2018 for Privilege Users and Period 1, 2018
for Regular Users is currently opened as seen in screen shot above.

We will go ahead to open Period 1 2018 and Period 2 2018 for Privilege Users and Period 2,
2018 will be opened for Regular Users.

Procedure:
Perform the following steps to complete this process

Step 1: Change the From Period 1 from the current period (12) to the next posting
period (1) for all six Account Types and Year from current year (2017) to (2018).
Step 2: Change the To Per. 1 from the current period (1) to the next posting period (2)
for all six Account Types and maintain the Year (2018).

Step 3: Click Save

Step 4: Change From Per. 2 from the current period (1) to the next posting period (2)
for Account Types + (Valid for all account types), A (Assets) and K (G/L accounts) and
maintain the year 2018.

Step 5: Change To Per. 2 from the current period (1) to the next posting period (2) for
Account Types + (Valid for all account types), A (Assets) and K (G/L accounts) and
maintain the year 2018.

Step 6: Click Save and achieve the result in screenshot below.

OKP1 – Open and Close Controlling Period

Procedure:
Perform the following steps to complete this process

Step 1: Run transaction OKP1

Step 2: Input the necessary parameters


Step 3: Double Click Actual

Step 4: Highlight the period to be opened (In this example Period 1, 2018)
Step 5: Double Click Unlock Period
Step 6: Click Save
