Concentric Valves for Compressors

Concentric valves combine suction and discharge sections into a common body for use in single-acting air, gas, and refrigeration compressors. They utilize space efficiently by placing the suction valve in the center with the discharge valve around the periphery. The design can also be reversed for some refrigeration compressors. Spring load for both valves is adjusted through variations in the number and tension of spring plates. Concentric valves are developed in close cooperation with compressor builders to optimize integration into cylinder head designs.

one common body. They present the best utilization of the available
space for valving in single acting cylinders. Valves come in two
designs: for water cooling and for air cooling.
On most designs, the suction valve occupies the center of the 5
valve and can be equipped with unloaders, while the discharge valve
is around the periphery as a single or two port design. For some
refrigeration compressors, this design is sometimes reversed to have 5
suction outside and discharge on the inside, which then can be
designed to have a liquid relief capability. 4
Outside diameters of the valves range from approximately
70 to 335 mm.

suction and discharge valves.
Concentric valve designs are normally developed in close
cooperation with the compressor builder to provide optimum 2
integration of the valve into the cylinder head design.
