affirmative, negative and interrogative statements
3. To be able to use the new tense in a dialogue on a given topic.
CONTENTS:
ACTIVITY 1: Checking homework
Time: 5’
ACTIVITY 2: Lead-in
Context: knowledge acquired the previous class
Time: 5’
Organization : a pair of students read aloud the dialogue in exercise 7 / p.56 using role-play.
Then the T asks them to look at the sentences that contain the present perfect
continuous and asks them if they can say how the tense is formed. The T
writes the rule on the blackboard. The students take notes. The teacher asks
them if they can name the tense. Students answer individually.
Possible problems: learning a new tense might seem difficult for the students. The T will
encourage them to discover the formation rule by themselves.
ACTIVITY 3
Context: the present perfect continuous
Time: 25’
Organization: The teacher asks the students to read the example sentences in the Grammar
snapshot box and asks them to form sentences using the model. Students
answer individually. The T writes the correct sentences on the blackboard. The
students copy in their notebooks.

Evaluation: pair work: students do ex.13 / p.57 as follow-up. Then they check their answers
as a class. Students answer individually. The T corrects mistakes.
Possible problems: Some students work much slower than others. The T will prompt
whenever necessary.
ACTIVITY 4
CONTEXT: exercise in the textbook
Time: 15’
Organization: Pair work: students look at the cues in ex.15/ p.58. Each of them chooses a part
and they take turns to ask and answer questions using the present perfect
continuous. One or two pairs acts out the dialogue using role-play. The teacher
gives feedback.
Homework: Ex.5 /p.38, ex.11 /p.40 (Language Booster)

e.g. They’ve been bullying me.
You have been reading for days.
Used with – for: He has been watching TV for an hour.
– since: She has been waiting since 6 o’clock.
Negative form: He hasn’t been watching TV for very long.
She hasn’t been waiting for very long.
Questions and short answers:
Have you been watching TV?
Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.
Has she been reading a book?
Yes, she has. / No, she hasn’t.
Use: events and actions which begin in the past and continue up to the present moment
(in answer to the question How long?)
