Linkage is any assemblage of rigid bodies connected by kinematic joints.
Mechanisms
and machine may be considered linkage. It is restricted to kinematic chains made up of lower
pairs.
A linkage is a mechanism made by connecting together levers. To connect the levers
together you can use any type of fastening which allows free movement, for example screws,
paper fasteners, pop rivets, etc. The linkage can be made to change the direction of a force or
make two or more things move at the same time.
A linkage which makes things move in opposite directions is called a REVERSE
MOTION LINKAGE. A linkage which makes the output move in the same direction as the input
is called PUSH-PULL LINKAGE.
If you want the output to move in the same direction as the input, then you would use the
push-pull linkage.
This consists of levers connected with two fixed pivot points.
