Sustainability
CSR produces a range of energy efficient building products and systems which
have the potential to reduce heating and cooling costs of homes and buildings,
essentially saving tonnes of greenhouse gases each year. Many of these products
are also produced from recycled materials thus:
• Reducing the demand for raw materials,
• Lowering emissions and pollution during manufacturing,
• Saving land-fill space.

Framing & Lining
• The addition of a timber cladding.
Steel framed walls required to have an FRL must comply

• At each storey or rise of studs. Other steel components of equivalent performance may be
used, however it is the responsibility of the manufacturer of
External Walls the component to substantiate equivalent performance with
the recommended component.
Gyprock® GFC external wall systems rely on a range of
cladding systems to provide weather resistance. There is a
range of effectiveness of these systems, and CSR Gyprock
recommends the cladding be installed with a drained cavity.
Cavity systems allow drainage and drying of any water
that penetrates, and are known to have good long-term
performance.
Sarking is also recommended to provide additional weather
protection to framing and lining.
External walls require specific design for condensation
control and energy efficiency, depending on the climate and
internal environment. Contact CSR Bradford for information
on thermal insulation systems and products.

To meet the stated Fire Resistance Level (FRL), the axial load
capacity of some wall systems is reduced. This is a result

To protect structural timber and steel beams and columns

equivalent to that required by the structural member. For
example, a wall system with FRL 90/90/90 provides FRL
90/–/– for a steel column within the wall.

Silencer Fire Performance
Power outlets and light switches can be installed in fire
rated walls using either fire rated switch boxes, standard
switches within a Gyprock Silencer™, or standard switches
with a baffle in the wall cavity. When installed correctly,
these methods maintain the FRL of the wall system in which
they are installed.
The Fire Resistance of electrical penetrations was tested at
the CSR Research NATA Laboratory. Standard power points
were positioned back to back within Gyprock Silencers™
without degrading the fire resistance of the wall system up
to –/120/120.(CSIRO assessment FCO 2039).
