Lesson Plan Taught

This lesson plan template outlines a math lesson for 2nd grade students on comparing fractions. The lesson involves students watching an introductory video on fractions, completing a worksheet comparing unit fractions, and playing an online fraction bingo game. Adjustments were made during instruction, including omitting the bingo game due to time constraints and adding partner work for early finishers. The intern felt the lesson was successful based on student engagement and ability to complete problems independently.

Reflection on a Lesson Plan Taught

Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow
Intern Name: Lauren Yee
Topic/Subject of Lesson: Math - Comparing Fractions
Grade: 2nd
Date of Lesson Taught: 5/8
Cooperating Teacher: Mr. Resek
Cooperating School: Centerville Elementary
Time of Day: 1120-12

1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your
lesson? To create this lesson I talked to my cooperating teacher to see about how they typically have
math lessons and tried to make it somewhat similar.

2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction? Having the SOL/objective really help me
have a clear idea of what they are supposed to learn and what to focus on

3. What parts of the instructional plan worked as you anticipated? The students watching the video and the
individual worksheet
4. What, if any, adjustments needed to be made once you began? Time, students did not have time to
complete the bingo game and instead of writing in their math journals we did a class talk on the carpet.
Also, some students finished faster than others so to keep them from getting disruptive, they went into
partner/table work and made fractions to compare for each other.

5. How well did you anticipate the materials needed? I had all the materials I needed :)

6. How effective was the assessment you chose to use? (If no assessment was used, what will the future
assessment be and how will you gauge its effectiveness?) I did an informal assessment during and at the
end of the lesson. During I was walking around and made sure students understood what to do and
checked answers with them. At the end, as a group, the students worked on a few more problems and
demonstrated their knowledge

7. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for the success of
the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!) I believe the lesson was a success
because students were able to complete the worksheet and extra problems without getting to frustrated.

8. How did the time spent preparing for your lesson contribute to its success? I think if you take a little
longer to find the write videos or to build the best demonstration or worksheet will equal more success
in the lesson. The more prepared you are then the easier it is to change things in the moment when
NEEDED and not make things up because of being ill prepared.

9. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently? If so, what?
If I were to do this lesson again, I would try to add more physical movements

10. Any last comments/reflections about your lesson? Creating and teaching the lesson was an amazing
experience and I cannot wait to do it again.
