Duraband® NC
Duraband® NC is manufactured by Postle Industries, Cleveland, Ohio, USA…in business over 40 years. Our
primary focus is the development of welding alloys and procedures to prevent wear in many industries
including construction, mining, agriculture and many more. Specific to the drilling industry, we have developed
hardbanding products that are extremely reliable and designed to prevent wear on casing and tool joints.

Duraband® NC provides the ideal balance of Tool Joint Protection, Casing Wear Protection and Re-application
Capability. Duraband is 100% rebuildable and non-cracking. It is the most versatile product for re-application.
Supported by over 200 Applicators worldwide. Because of its success, Duraband® NC is being used around
the world – South America, North America, Middle East, Canada, Europe and Russia, Africa, Southeast Asia,
New Zealand and Australia and China
Provided that procedures are followed, Duraband applies 100% crack-free. It is a metal-cored, gas shielded
welding wire. Hardband weld deposits are smooth….free of slag and porosity. Duraband is very easy to apply
on new drill pipe, as well as re-application over itself.
It has been independently tested by both Fearnley Procter and TH Hill for re-application over other products as
well.

Duraband is Non-Cracking
Duraband® NC is casing friendly, and has been engineered for maximum performance. It is applied
crack-free, increasing protection of the casing and offering maximum life to the tool joint.
From the Duraband Procedure Manual - Duraband is applied crack free or it does not ship.
Duraband NC was the first product that was designed for drill pipe that must be applied crack free.
In other words, at the drill pipe manufacturer, such as RDT, Vallourec(Vam), TCS Drill Pipe or Grant
Prideco, our procedures do not allow cracks. Any crack is an automatic rejection. All drill pipe is
treated equally.

The process of Hardbanding with Duraband® NC is very easy and future re-application costs
are much lower.
Two layers of Duraband are possible
For re-application Duraband on Duraband, removal is not required.
Duraband® NC can be rebuilt over and over.
Duraband®NC is crack-free. Abrasive materials cannot collect in the cracks and cause wear on
the casing.
Duraband®NC, applied crack-free, minimizes critical sites for sour gas problems.
300XT – no longer supported by NS-1 Certification
300XT shows a heavy cracking pattern.
Leads to spalling and lifting of the hardband, as well as unusual erosion patterns.
Spalling could result in casing damage
Cracking pattern in 300XT allows abrasives, drilling fluids and sulfur gas to become trapped
under the 300XT hardband.
Severe spalling and chipping of 300XT results in re-application sooner than expected.
Re-applications are difficult, usually requiring the 300XT to be removed…increasing the cost of
re-application by 300 to 400%
Testing
Postle Industries uses independent laboratories and testing facilities, as well as customer field testing to
confirm data and properties and verify results. While we have our own facilities where we continually conduct
research, we rely on outside testing.
Casing Wear Tests from Mohr Engineering
Mohr Engineering, Houston, Texas, is the only company that can conduct an independent casing wear test -
recognized by the API.
Included with this document are casing wear results of Duraband versus Arnco 300XT, independently tested
by Mohr Engineering using T95 and Q125 casing material.

Fearnley Procter NS-1
Postle has made the commitment to submit Duraband to Fearnley Procter for an independent review of our
product and procedure. At the end of the review and testing, assuming all criteria are satisfied, Fearnley
issues an NS-1 Certificate of Approval. The procedures used in our manual are independently tested and
verified
