Literature Review

1. Several papers propose using Defected Ground Structures (DGS) to improve the performance of MIMO antennas. DGS are designed to reduce mutual coupling between antenna elements and improve isolation. 2. One paper describes a DGS design using 12 slots that reduces surface wave coupling between antenna elements, achieving mutual coupling values below -23.6 dB. Another paper presents a dumbbell-shaped DGS that acts as a phase shifter without affecting resonance frequency. 3. In general, DGS designs are able to minimize mutual coupling, enhance isolation between antenna elements, and improve antenna parameters like return loss, gain and directivity compared to MIMO designs without DGS. However, some DGS
