6.1 Rahu-Ketu in Twelve Signs

The Zodiac is an imagined belt m the heaven along which the

grahas travel. It extends to nine degrees on each side of the ecliptic.

The Zodiac circle is divided into twelve parts, each part comprising

of 30 degrees and they are called as the signs of Zodiac. So, a sign

can be defined as one-twelfth division of the Zodiac circle and it

contains 30 degrees of celestial longitude. The grahas travel m their

orbit, going from one sign to another and m their movements, they

give different results. Let us find out the results of Rahu-Ketu in

different signs

None of the astrological works have clearly explained the

results of Rahu-Ketu in different signs. Some of the texts refer to this

factor. So, these references and personal experiences of the

scholars must be taken into account to decide the results of Rahu-

Ketu in twelve signs.

Accordmg to Vaidyanatha, Rahu gives good results in Cancer,

Aries and Taurus.

The ruling period of Rahu will bring prosperity, wealth, fame,

awards, success in education and marital happiness, when Rahu is

m Cancer or Aries or Taurus.

The ruhng period of Rahu will bring prosperity, kingly powers,

marital happmess and wealth, when Rahu is m Pisces or

Sagittarius. But at the end of the period, all the good results will be

destroyed The ruling period of Rahu3, when Rahu is m Capricorn or

Taurus or Virgo or cancer, will make the native a king or he will get
kingly powers or the native will become a prominent person and the

native will become rich. Accordmg to Vaidyanatha 4, Rahu is powerful

in Aries, Scorpio, Aquarius, Virgo, Taurus and cancer. Ketu is

powerful m Virgo, Pisces, Taurus and Sagittarius. He also says that

the native bom in Leo ascendant with Rahu m it will get kmgly

status. And, the native bom in either Aquarius or Capricorn

ascendant with Ketu m it will get prosperity and it will increase his

longevity.

Scorpio, Cancer and Aquarius. And, Ketu is powerful in Taurus,

Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

These are the opinion of various scholars on the results of Rahu -

Ketu in different signs. Many other scholars like Garga, Narayana also

have given the same opinion But, it is impossible to say that all the

above opinion are correct. So we must consider the personal

experiences of astrological scholars also and we must come to a

clear view on the results of Rahu - Ketu m signs.

From all the above opinions we can come to the conclusion

that Rahu - Ketu give good results m dual signs- i.e Gemini, Virgo,

Sagittarius and Pisces and Rahu - Ketu give good results in Cancer

and Aquarius also. But, as told by Vaidyanatha and Mantresvara, Rahu

- Ketu don’t give good results m Aries, Taurus, Capricorn, Leo and

Scorpio unless they are upacaya houses. 3, 6, 10 and 11 are the

upacaya houses, where all the malefic grahas give good results.

Kalidasa in his Uttarakalamrta has told that Rahu - Ketu give good

results in dual signs.

The 12 signs of the zodiac are divided into 3 groups and they
are fixed, movable and dual signs. Aries, Cancer, Libra and
Capricorn are movable signs. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius
are fixed signs. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces are dual

signs. My experience also says that Rahu - Ketu give good results m

dual signs. Let us know the results of Rahu - Ketu m 12 signs

6.1.1 Aries ;

Aries is a movable sign, owned by Mars and it’s a masculine

sign and it is quite harsh in nature and it represents fire element. It
also mdicates luxury, rude behavior, short temper, courage,
mnovation, independence, leadership, quickness etc. Many

scholars like Vaidyanatha, Mantresvara have considered Aries as a

favourable sign for Rahu. But according to me Aries is unfavourable

sign as far as Rahu is concerned. Ketu also does not give good

results m Aries. When Rahu or Ketu is in Aries, the native will

become rude, harsh and short tempered. His desire for luxuries will
increase and the native will be often confused.

Vaidyanatha and Mantresvara have considered Taurus as a

favourable sign for both Rahu - Ketu But this is also not true.

Taurus is a feminine sign owned by Venus. It is cool and stable.

Some of the scholars have considered Taurus as the Exaltation sign

of Rahu But, both Rahu and Ketu does not give good results m

Taurus. Taurus is a sign of Venus, which mdicates luxury,

comforts, sex, love, marriage etc. So, when Rahu or Ketu is placed m

Taurus, it creates bad habits, mcreases the sexual thirst, and it

makes the native’s character doubtful. So, Rahu and Ketu does not

give good results m Taurus.

6.1.3Gemini

Gemini is a masculine sign, owned by Mercury and it is a

dual sign and it falls under the air element Some of the scholars

have considered Gemini as the exaltation sign of Rahu and both

Rahu - Ketu give good results m Gemini. I have already told that

nodes give good results m dual signs.

6.1.4 Cancer

Cancer is a feminine sign owned by Moon. It belongs to the

water element and is phlegmatic in nature and it has mobility. As it
belongs to Moon, it is related to emotions, psyche, mind, property

etc also. Cancer is known to be a favourable for Rahu and Ketu My

experiences also say that the nodes give good results in Cancer.

6.1.5 Leo

Leo is a masculine sign owned by Sun and it belongs to the

fire element and it is harsh, hot and angry by nature. Leo indicates
the king, who want to rule wherever they go. Many scholars have

considered Leo to be a dear one to Rahu and Ketu. But, accordmg to

me, Rahu and Ketu does not give favourable results m Leo. It makes

the native more harsh, hot and short tempered But, the native will
be courageous. And it makes the native unadjustable.

6.1.6 Virgo:

Virgo is a femmme sign owned by Mercury and it is cool,

quite and falls under the earth element and it is a dual sign. Most

of the scholars say that Virgo is jointly owned by Mercury and Rahu

Both Rahu and Ketu give good results m Virgo. And, if they are

under good influences, they bestow kmgly powers on the native.

6.1.7 Libra:

Libra is a masculine sign, owned by Venus and it is a

movable sign and as said earlier it is owned by Venus, so it

indicates luxuries and comforts. Libra is a unfavorable sign for Rahu

and Ketu. Librans usually love truth and they always like to play a

vital role in social services. But both Rahu and Ketu does not suit

this nature of libra. So, generally Rahu - Ketu don’t give good results

m Libra.

6.1.8 Scorpio:

Scorpio is a feminine sign owned by Mars and it is stable. As

Mars is the ruler of Scorpio, usually these natives are heroic,
courageous, adventurous and harsh also Some of the scholars

have considered Scorpio as the debilitation sign of Rahu. So,

naturally Rahu will give bad results m Scorpio. Some have

considered it as the exaltation sign of Ketu. So, it must be a dear

one to Ketu But, both Rahu and Ketu do not give favorable results in

Scorpio. Most of the times the natives are very rude and landless

Sagittarius is a masculine sign and it falls under the fire

element and it is owned by Jupiter. Sagittarius is a dual sign and I
have already told that the nodes are favorable in dual signs. And,

when Rahu is m Sagittarius, it is called as, Kodanda Rahu, where it

gives kingly status. It makes the native courageous, passionate and

successful. Rahu m Sagittarius gives philosophical and religious

interest also. Just like Rahu, Ketu is also favorable in Sagittarius.

Most of the scholars have considered Capricorn as a

favouravle sign for Rahu and Ketu. Capricorn is a movable sign

owned by Saturn. Capricorn is a femmme sign and it belongs to

earth element. Usually, the Capricorn native are confused, and very

slow m action. And, both Rahu and Ketu does not suit Capricorn.

So, they are unfavourable m Capricorn. But, both Rahu and Ketu m

Capricorn develop spiritual interests. Usually they increase lazmess

and rudeness m Capricorn

6.1.11 Aquarius :

Aquarius is a masculine sign owned by Saturn and it is a

stable sign Some have considered Aquarius as the mulatnkona of

Rahu and Exaltation sign of Ketu So, naturally they must be

favourable m Aquarius and experience also says that both Rahu and

Ketu give good results m Aquarius. Rahu and Ketu in Aquarius

increase religious and spiritual bent of mmd also. Most of the

times, both Rahu and Ketu give good results m Aquarius.

6.1.12 Pisces:

Pisces is a feminine sign, dual natured owned by Jupiter. As

it is a dual sign, both Rahu and Ketu give favourable results m

Pisces. Some scholars have considered Pisces as the own house of

Ketu.

These are the results of Rahu - Ketu m twelve signs. But, these

results will change according to the relationship with other grahas.

If Rahu or Ketu are with a exalted graha or they are aspected by

angular lords or by time lords, they will give favourable results. If

the nodes are with debilitated or they have relationship with maraka

lords, they will be unfavourable. The above said results of Rahu -

Ketu in the signs cannot be considered as a final verdict. Even

scholars also don’t have a clear opinion on this pomt. That’s why,

none of the astrological texts mention about it. And, Rahu and Ketu

are not given the lordships of the signs also and I have already told

that they don’t have such divisions Vaidyanatha, Mantresvara and

others have considered Aries, Taurus and Capricorn as favourable

signs of Rahu and Ketu. But, they are not seen as favourables in

these signs. The difference of opmion of the scholars mdicates that,

they didn’t had a clear verdict on these matters. And in deciding
the results of the nodes m signs, the personal experience of the
astrologers must be considered also. I have come to the conclusion
that, the nodes give favourable results in Cancer, Aquarius and
dual signs. Let us study this natter with the help of some
horoscopes.

I have studied many other charts also in which the nodes m

dual signs, Cancer and Aquarius proved very good. So, it is my

are favourable but only when they are upacaya houses or they under

the influence of angular and trine lords A study of the charts show

that the opinion of Vaidyanatha, Mantresvara and other scholars are not

fully true on Rahu and Ketu Even they had doubts on certain

matters and so, they didn’t mention the results of the nodes in
signs elaborately.

6.2 Rahu - Ketu in Twelve Houses

I have already explained about the results of Rahu - Ketu in

different signs. Let us study the results of Rahu - Ketu in different

houses. There are 12 signs in the Zodiac and 12 houses are also
there m a horoscope But the houses and signs are different They

are not the same Houses are also called as Bhava The twelve

houses of the horoscope should not be confused with the twelve

signs of the Zodiac, because twelve houses are divisions in a chart
and signs are sections m the Zodiac The rising sign corresponding
to the time of birth or question at any specified time is called as the

ascendant, which is also called as Lagna bhava . Ascendant is the

first house and the succeeding houses are 2nd, 3rd , 4th ,5th
............. 12th. Just as the grahas and signs, houses also signify
different things, which is essential in judging a horoscope. Let us

know the results of Rahu - Ketu in these 12 houses. We will have a

general look on the effects of Rahu - Ketu Because, the actual

results with respect to a particular chart will change according to

the effects of signs, aspects and association with other grahas. And,

there are some generally accepted views on the effects of Rahu -

Ketu which we have to consider m deciding the effects.

6.2.1 Rahu in twelve houses

Rahu is always considered as favourable m 3rd ,6th , and 11th

houses and Ketu in the 9th, 12th, and 5th houses. Rahu gives bad

results, particularly m 5th, 7th, 8th, and 12th houses I feel that Rahu is

auspicious m 5th and 9th houses also, where it is considered as

mauspicious.I feel that Rahu m 5th and 9th houses give surprising

results Let us know the effects of Rahu

6.2.1.1 Rahu In Ascendant

Rahu m the first house or ascendant is always considered as

inauspicious.

According to this verse, when Rahu is m the ascendant the native

will be cruel, cheater, sinful, wicked, adventurous and unhealthy.

Almost all the astrological texts consider the ascedant Rahu as

mauspicious. But Camatkara Cmtamani9 says that the native will be

healthy when Rahu is m ascendant. But, this is not seen practically.

Rahu m ascendant is an mdicator of health problems especially the

diseases related to the upper portion of the body i.e head.

Generally Rahu m the ascendant makes' the native ill natured, short

tempered, self centred and against religion. Usually the health will
be very poor unless there is beneficial influence on the ascendant

or Rahu. The native will suffer from headaches and diseases in the

upper part of the body. The native will suffer from lack of domestic
happiness, lack of harmony with spouse and lack of self
confidence. But, these results will change according to the signs.

Because, Aries, Taurus and Leo ascendants with Rahu m it has

been considered auspicious And, when Rahu is associated with the

powerful lord of an angular house or a triangular house or aspected

by the owner of the house will form a Rajayoga If the dispositor of

Rahu is powerfully placed, the native will gam wealth and

prosperity. And, the relationship of Rahu with a maraka 1 e the owner

of the second and seventh house will destroy the wealth of the
native and may cause his death also.

Rahu is considered as inauspicious m second house also.

When Rahu is m second house, the native will be a liar, he will

relate with wicked people, he will lose his relatives, his relation with

relatives will not be good and he will be harsh m speech. It also

creates defects in speaking, creates sorrow, ill repute, financial

scarcity and also bad drinking and eating habits. The native will

have diseases in the mouth and also eye diseases and it also makes

the native fraud and deceitful. The native may not have good

ways. When the lord of 5th or 9th house is m relation with Rahu, it will

make the native prosperous. Favourable Rahu placed in the second

6.2.1.3 Rahu In third house

As I have told earlier, Rahu is considered as favourable m

third house. Third house is a upacaya house, where malefic grahas

give good results.

As told earlier, the native gets happiness from wife, son, wealth

etc. when Rahu is m third house. But the native loses his brothers

or will have misunderstanding with brothers. The native will be

adventurous and bold. He will get good reputation and victory over

enemies. When Rahu is m relation with a beneficial graha, removes

all other adverse effects in the horoscope and makes the native long

lived. Generally, Rahu m third house will cause difficult relationship

with brothers and sisters especially with younger one. These people

travel a lot. If Rahu is associated with a powerful lord of an angle or

a triangular house will form Rajayoga. The native always enjoys

wealth, progeny, company of women and friends Almost all the
astrological scholars have considered 3rd house as a favourable

house for Rahu.

6.2.1.4 Rahu In Fourth House

Scholars have mixed view on the effects of Rahu m fourth

house. Astrological texts consider fourth house as a unfavourable

one for Rahu. But many modern scholars believe that Rahu will be

good in fourth house.

Usually the native loses his friends, brothers, parents etc when

Rahu m forth house The forth house Indicates mother, house,

relatives, heart etc So when Rahu is in forth house, all these factors

will be affected. Forth house is also called as Sukhabhavam. So, when

Rahu is m forth house, the native’s happiness and comforts will be

adversely affected. The native will be adamant in nature, lack of

domestic happmess, lack of maternal love and sometimes the

parents may die very early. Usually, the native will not have open

mind, his relationship with Mends, relatives and mother will not be

good Native’s mother will be long lived but generally unhappy. But

the native will have land, house and high status. Native will be very

selfish, rude and sometimes violent temperament also. Usually

6.2.1.5 Rahu In Fifth House

Rahu is considered as very bad in fifth house. But I feel that

Rahu gives mixed results in fifth house just as in fourth house.

Rahu in fifth house usually creates problem related to progeny. The

native will suffer from gastritis and stomach problems Native’s

mmd will be full of delusion and misconceptions. Native will never

receive any benefit from his children. Rahu Creates depression and

sometimes insanity also. In a female’s chart, it leads to abortions

and a delay in conception. One may have sick and weak children. It

may make the native narrow minded and short-tempered Rahu in

fifth house leads to defective intellect, quarrels m intellectual

matters, suffering and rift. It also indicates diseases of stomach,
sex-organ, uterus etc. But, the progeny problems can be cured
through medical and divine remedies. We will discuss about it in
detail m later chapter Fifth house is also considered as a house of

sudden gams. If Rahu is with powerful or well placed fifth house

lord, the native is likely to gam wealth suddenly. Most of the times
the gain will be through gambling, games of chance or speculation.

Sixth house is considered as a auspicious house for Rahu.

Sixth house is a upacaya house and malefic grahas give favourable

equivalents for him m the earth Most of the scholars like Garga,

Dundiraja, Vaidyanatha etc are of the opmion that Rahu gives favourable

results m sixth house Rahu in the sixth house destroy all enemies.

It gives wealth and relieves the native from all struggles and
difficult situations. The native will become an important person m
the society and will live a long life. But, the native will be deprived

of love from paternal and maternal uncles. If Rahu is in weak or

under adverse influence, the native will have a scandalous personal
ljfe and he will face health problems, back pain, venoral
complaints. Usually the native will have favourable effects from

Rahu in sixth house.

6.2.1.7 Rahu In Seventh House

6.3 Rahu and Ketu in relation to other Grahas

In the earlier part, I have told that the effects of Rahu and Ketu

will change m the signs and houses according to their relationship

with other Grahas. So, it is necessary to have a look on the

this, firstly we must know which are the friend, neutral and enemy

Grahas of Rahu and Ketu

Each graha has a natural affinity and maffimty to other grahas

The placement of a graha in any birth chart gives the graha some

temporary relationships. If a graha is a temporary friend of the other

graha, though they are mimical to each other yet they become

neutral to each other because of the placement. If these two grahas

are natural friends they become great friends and if they are
temporal enemies and also natural enemies, then they become
bitter enemies. These points must be kept m mind m judging the

relationship of the grahas.

Varahamihira, Vaidyanatha have not mentioned about it. Rahu - Ketu are

mysterious grahas. They don’t have the ownership of any sign. They

only occupy a sign and act as representatives for the graha with
whom they are m conjunction with or aspect and the lord of the
sign in which they are placed So, generally they maintain a

common relationship with other grahas. But, based upon the

signification of the grahas., we can judge which are the friends, foes

and neutrals of the nodes.

Generally, the graha which will help other grahas with it’s

influence is considered as friend. And, the graha which will obstruct

the effects of other grahas is considered as enemy. Mercury, Venus

and Saturn are considered as the friends of Rahu - Ketu

 Mercury signifies education and intellect and the nodes don’t
have any interest m this field. And, generally they help m
researches. So, Mercury is a fnend of the nodes Venus is the

srgmfier of spouse and the nodes are spiritual grahas. So they have

longevity and the nodes are not interested m longevity So, Saturn

neutral graha to the nodes. As Ketu and Mars share some character,

Sun is considered as a bitter enemy of the nodes. Sun

signifies atma and the nodes are spmtual grahas So, their mterests

are same Enmity between two will come only when both have the

If two people are working to gam the same thing, then they
are considered as nvals. As, both sun and the nodes have spiritual
interests, they are rivals. So, Sun is considered as a enemy of the

nodes. Jupiter is also a enemy of the nodes. Jupiter mdicates

naturally they are enemies. Moon is also considered as a enemy of
the nodes. Moon indicates mind and the nodes are famous for
creating dirty thinking and psychic problems. So, naturally they

the nodes with other grahas. But, I feel that, as the nodes are

mysterious, their relationship with other grahas is also mysterious.

6.3.1 Sun and the Nodes

Sun is considered as a bitter enemy of the nodes. So,

naturally this relationship will always be bad to the native. This
combination makes the native cruel, rude and selfish. Native’s
father will face many problems. Native will not maintain a good
relationship with his father and the native may destroy the
ancestral property. When sun is with the nodes the native will face
eye diseases. But, the native will be a man of self respect. The
native will work m foreign lands or the native will earn through

When Rahu is with sun in the ascendant, the native will face

frequent health problems. The native will loose money, education

problems and sometimes dumb also, when Rahu is m second house
