Definition It is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech.

It is
usually not meant to be taken literally. We often use hyperbole in everyday
speech, but we also use it in prose and poetry.

Pronunciation: (ˈ/haɪˈpɜːrbəli/; Greek: ὑπερβολή, huperbolḗ, from ὑπέρ (hupér, “above”)


and βάλλω (bállō, "I throw").

Usage 1-Hyperbole may be used for emphasis or effect.

2-Hyperboles are often used in casual speech as intensifiers.

3- It has been established that use of hyperboles relays emotions.

4- Hyperbole can be used in a form of humour, excitement, distress, and many


other emotions, all depending on the context in which the speaker uses it.

5-It is used to make the description more creative.
