names in familiar contexts.

i. Say the number names 1 to 9.

Activities Communication, Problem Solving and
Reasoning.
Say the number names in order 1 – 5 to keep a
steady pace
of clapping, hopping or any other possible
movement.
Teacher claps and pupils count a series of claps.
Clap one time, two times …
Pupils listen and count a series of claps.
Teacher: “Children, look at these picture cards”.
e.g. 3 birds, 5 bees, 6 chicks
“Let’s us make sound ”.
Pupils make sound like birds “chirping …”; like
bees “buzzing …” ; frogs “croaking …..” and
count according to the number of animals shown.
Repeat by tapping knees or hopping.
Pupils match picture flash cards with number flash
cards.
Teacher shows picture flash card of 6 mangoes.
Teacher represents number 1 to 9 “Children, how many mangoes can you see?”
using objects.
Teacher shows flash card of number 6.
Teacher:
Teacher sticks the number 6 flash card on the
mango picture flash card and says “ 6 mangoes”.
Pupils repeat after teacher.
Teacher: Teacher shows picture flash card of 7 mangoes.
“Now, how many mangoes can you see?”
Teacher shows flash card of number 7.
Teacher sticks the number 7 flash card on the
mango picture flash card and says “7
mangoes”.
Pupils repeat after teacher.
Teacher continues to do this activity until
number 9.
Teacher checks on pupils pronunciation.
Teacher distributes Worksheets 1.
Recognise numerals
1 to 9. Pupils match pictures with numerals.
Teacher: “Children, ring the number of cats.”
“What is the number?”
Pupils respond.
Teacher: “Ring the correct number of rabbits.”
“What is the number?”
Pupils respond.
Teacher: “Ring the correct number of teddy bears.”
“What is the number?
Pupils respond.
Teacher helps pupils to say the number names
correctly.
Written work: Teacher distributes Worksheets 2.
Teacher: “Children, match the objects with the correct
number.”
“Show your answer to your friend”
“Is your answer the same as your friend’s
answer?”
“Colour the objects”.
Teacher checks pupils’ work for accuracy.
BUSY PEOPLE
One busy people sweeping the floor
Two busy people closing the door
Three busy people washing baby’s socks
Four busy people are lifting the rocks
Five busy people washing the bowls
Six busy people stirring ‘dodol’
Seven busy people chasing the mouse
Eight busy people painting the house
Nine busy people sewing clothes
Teacher: “Lets sing a song about busy people.”
“First, form a big ring.”
“Sing after me.”
Get one pupil to stand in the middle of the ring
and act out, for example, sweeping the floor.
Other pupils do the action.
Repeat with two, three, and so on up to nine.
Teacher helps pupils by demonstrating the action
for every line in the song.
Repeat singing and acting 2 times.
Teacher shows picture cards with different
number of objects. Pupils say and show the
correct number cards.
Say and recognise numbers 1 to eg. 3 flowers

Discuss with pupils how they decide on saying
the correct number.
