Post 9- planning/schedule

By Katie Cook
Plan
• In each lesson for the next 3 weeks we will take the equipment out
and film for our documentary. We will film footage such as archival
footage, background footage, vox pops and we will film our presenter
then eventually edit it together. For this process to run smoothly it is
efficient that I create a plan that we can follow so each time we come
to film we know what we need to do and what's already been done.
Furthermore, this plan will be ongoing until we have finished filming
so I can update it and add the booking sheets to this presentation.
Lesson 1- 31/10/17
• In this lesson we will take out the equipment such as, the tripod and camera and
focus on background footage in Solihull centre and touchwood. For our
background footage we want to include footage of Boots and Superdrug.
Therefore, we will set up the tripod and camera outside of these shops and film
people going in and coming out. We can then speed this up and narrate over it
for our documentary. I think that this will be a good location for our background
footage as it relates to a topic we will discuss in our as it relates to people buying
cosmetics like makeup products and hair products etc.
• We could also go into the shops ,if we can get permission, and film the products
to show our audience how many different brands there are that are available to
us, this will relate to what we are saying in the documentary.
• When we get back into lesson we will then log our footage so that it is safe so we
don’t loose any of it and decide whether the footage is good enough to use.

Lesson 2- 3/11/17
• In this lesson we will go off site again to film in Solihull/ touchwood.
During this time we will get vox pops. This will include us speaking to
the public and asking if we can interview them. We will ask them
questions about plastic surgery and overall the self confidence issue.
To do this we will have to take a mic and headphones as well as the
camera and the tripod. It is important for us to get vox pops from the
public as it allows us to gain a wider variety of opinions from a larger
group of people, as well as it being our target audience.
• It is important that we get the sound right on our vox pop footage so
we haven’t got to re-do them all.
• We will log our footage again after to secure our footage.
Booking sheet-
Lesson 3- 7/11/17
• In this lesson I think we should stay in college and get background footage
from in college and vox pops from students as students fit into our target
audience. This allows us to get more views that we can include in our
documentary to make it more interesting and it also helps to gain a
connection with our audience. Therefore, we will need all the equipment
with us again, so we should use the equipment booking sheets to log this.
• In this time we will also need to attempt to ask someone that will allow us
to film them in the toilets putting their makeup on, this will be our
reconstruction.
• During this time if we get enough background footage and vox pops, then
we should start to film our presenter for our introduction.
• Location- college corridors, canteen and toilets.
• Equipment- tri-pod, camera, mic and headphones
Booking sheet-
Lesson 4- 10/11/17
• In this lesson we will film our facts and statistics. We will do this by using
the research that we collected in earlier lessons. For our facts and statistics
we want to do it so we can create graphics so we will have to film it in a
specific way.
• Also, we need to collects archival footage. For this we will find a video of a
catwalk on YouTube and record it using our camera. To make sure we can
see it clearly we will hold a black screen up behind to avoid reflections and
set the camera up so it is at the correct angle. Also, we can use an adapter
to plug into the computer that will then connect with the camera so the
sound is clear.
• Location – we will use a spare classroom so its quiet when filming.
• Equipment- camera, tripod, headphones, adapter, computer and black
screen.
Booking sheet-
Lesson 5- 14/11/17
• For this lesson we have our expert interview booked with the college counsellor,
Julie Maitland. In this interview we will ask her discuss her opinions on peoples
confidence issues due to the effect of social media and celebrities, we will also
ask her what she thinks about plastic surgery and whether she thinks it is an
efficient use of money if people are so insecure about the way they look. During
this interview we would also like to go into depth about whether she gets a lot of
students in college who are feeling pressure to look ‘pretty’ all the time and if this
has a big impact on them. We think a counsellor is a good expert interview to
have in our documentary as she is experienced and a professional.
• For this interview we need to make sure the lighting and sound is set up correctly
as we’ve had to book this interview and might not be able to get another
interview if it goes wrong.
• Location- in her office and we will film it against a wall that has related posters
behind her to create our mise en scene.
• Equipment- 2/3 cameras, tri-pod, headphones, mic and lighting

Lesson 6- 17/11/17
• In this lesson we will collect are presenter footage. For this we will need to
go into Solihull as we want to begin are documentary in Solihull so our
introduction will be in Solihull, preferably out side boots.
• We will then go into college and get more students to answer questions
such as ‘do you wear makeup’ and ‘would you ever go out without makeup
on’ this will vox pop and will be used when we discuss the makeup topic.
• In this lesson we should get all of the footage we need for when we put it
all together, therefore next lesson we will just need to do fillers and just
extra footage.
• Location- college and Solihull
• Equipment- camera, tripod, mic and headphones
Booking sheet
Lesson 7- 21/11/17
• This will be our last day of filming so for this lesson we will finish off any
parts that we have missed. For example, we have decided that we are
going to create archival footage where we wrote words that relate to
appearance on a white board. For this, we will need to be in any empty
classroom and we will need a whiteboard. When we do our editing we can
narrate over this telling our audience information about appearance issues.
• After we have done this we can then film more presenter footage.
• Today we will need all the original equipment such as tri-pod, cannon
camera, microphone and headphones and for propps we will need a
whiteboard and pens.
• The location will be in college.
