Understanding Coronavirus: Key Facts & Safety Tips

The document summarizes information about coronaviruses and the recent COVID-19 outbreak. It discusses that coronaviruses infect mammals and birds, causing mild respiratory illnesses in humans. It then lists the seven known human coronavirus strains and describes the origins and symptoms of COVID-19. The outbreak is believed to have started at a wet market in Wuhan, China, where animals carried coronaviruses that jumped to humans. To protect against infection, it recommends washing hands frequently, avoiding contact with live animals, seeking medical help for COVID-19 symptoms, and self-quarantining if returning from an infected area.

Overview : Coronavirus

• Coronavirus are named for the crown-like spikes

on their surface. They are common throughout the
world.

• Most coronaviruses infect animals ,but there are

six different coronaviruses that infect humans.

• Some coronavirus that infect animals also infect

and spread between humans .
What is Coronavirus?
 Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that cause
diseases in mammals and birds. In humans,
coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections
that are typically mild, such as some cases of the
common cold. There are many different kinds,
and some cause disease. A newly identified type
has caused a recent outbreak of respiratory
illness now called COVID-19 that started in
China.
Seven strains of human coronaviruses are known:

1.Human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E),1960s

2.Human coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43)

3.Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus

(SARS-CoV),2003

4.Human coronavirus NL63 (HCoV-NL63,

New Haven coronavirus)

5.Human coronavirus HKU1

6. Middle East respiratory syndrome-related

coronavirus (MERS-CoV), previously known as
novel coronavirus 2012 and HCoV-EMC

7.Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2

(SARS-CoV-2), previously known as 2019-nCoV
or "novel coronavirus 2019"
How did the outbreak start?

• The source of the coronavirus is believed to be a "wet market" in Wuhan which sold both
dead and live animals including fish and birds.

• Such markets pose a heightened risk of viruses jumping from animals to humans because
hygiene standards are difficult to maintain if live animals are being kept and butchered on
site. Typically, they are also densely packed.

• The animal source of the latest outbreak has not yet been identified, but the original host is
thought to be bats. Bats were not sold at the Wuhan market but may have infected live
chickens or other animals sold there.

• Bats are host to a wide range of zoonotic viruses including Ebola, HIV and rabies.

Symptoms Of Coronavirus in Human

The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days

after exposure.

• Fever

• Cough

• Shortness of breath
How to protect yourself and other
1. Wash your hands: wet your hands with clean, running water and apply
soap.Lather your hands, including the backs, between your fingers, and under
your nails and scrub for at least 20 seconds. Rinse.

2. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze,
then throw tissue in the bin and wash your hands.
If you do not have a tissue to hand, cough or sneeze into your elbow rather than
your hand.
3. Face masks offer some protection as they block liquid droplets.
However, they do not block smaller aerosol particles that can pass
through the material of the mask. The masks also leave the eyes
exposed and there is evidence that some viruses can infect a person
through the eyes.

4. Seek early medical help if you have a fever, cough and difficulty
breathing, and share your travel history with healthcare providers.

5. If visiting live markets in affected areas avoid direct,

unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces that
have been in contact with animals.
6. If you have returned from an affected area in the last two weeks, stay indoors
and avoid contact with other people for 14 days. This means not going to
work, school or public areas.

7. If you have returned from an infected area and develop a high temperature,
cough, runny nose, sore throat or difficulty breathing do not leave your
home until you have been given advice by a doctor.

In other countries,They close their airport ,School,University,Cenima and

Public areas because of CORONA,where to stop the CoronaVirus from
Spreading.
We all praying for everyone who infected Coronavirus .
