INTRODUCTION
• Plastics are the most consumable, easily accessible and light-weight materials which are variedly utilized for domestic
as well as industrial purposes. Due to their flexibility in availability and use, they are being consumed in every walk of
life.
• Since they are non-biodegradable in nature, it is very important to recycle and re-use these plastics. To make plastics
re-usable it brings in the urgency to efficiently sort them.
• Manual sorting and using automated systems are the two elite ways of sorting plastics for recycling. Most of the
recycling processes involve manual sorting which are dependent on personnel who identify and pick plastic waste on a
low speed conveyor belt.
• This might not be a proper option for recycling of high output. Achieving consistency of plastic separation process in
workers is difficult. It has also proven to be highly time-taking and hectic process. Automated sorting systems use a
combination of detection systems to identify recyclable plastics from different kind of waste. State-of the art
technologies are used in these detection systems to automatically sort plastics.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
In today’s society, plastic detection and segregation is an increasingly important issue
due to developing technologies and rapid urbanization. There is a huge problem in plastic
segregation which involves manual sorting techniques which are in most cases hazardous,
dangerous and effort demanding. As the consumption rate of plastics is multiplying
exponentially, it is very important to have an automatic system for plastic segregation.
OBJECTIVES
It can be done using various technologies like image processing, IR spectroscopy etc.,
In this work, improved methods and tools such as machine learning and image processing
feature extraction are used for the detection of plastic. Based on the Analyzing and
manipulating the images .
when waste containing metal, wood , paper and plastic is passed through image processing
unit, the plastic is detected and automatically sorted by a mechanical setup which will
separate the plastic from other waste materials using microcontrollers.
The conventional waste management system can be transformed into a smart system by
means of automatic plastic segregation system.
METHODOLOGY
This System basically work on separation methodology, Which Separates plastic waste from
domestic waste
Firstly we kept waste part on surface under the Pi camera which scan captured image then it process
provided algorithm and trained data set using Machine Learning concept with help of Raspberry Pi
If it found non plastic material then it simply push that waste part into Non plastic collecting Bin and
display a thank you message to that person
If it is found plastic material then it ask to show RFID tag ,By which it credit some points in that
registered member of that particular Database. (Ex- college database ,Office Database) where this
system installed and display thank you message
Finally it will send text message to that person about his information like earned points, total points,
Remaining Points to be achieve etc…
After collecting that separated waste it can be send to further process like plastic for recycling and
other waste for agriculture purpose etc….
