                   HIGH VOLUME INSTUMENT
• The HVI system measures various physical characteristics of cotton. HVI
system are based on the fibre bundle testing and their average values
  determined
1. Micronaire
2. Fibre strength in g/tex
3. Elongation
4. Moisture content
5. Color
6. Uniformtiy index
7. Trash
8. Maturity
9. Short fiber index
10. Spinning consistency index (SCI)
 SCI= - 414.67 +2.9 strength -
 9.32micronaire + 49.17 UHML
 +4.74UI +0.65RD +0.36B
                      HVI Application
• Quality control of all the bales processed in a spinning
• Verify published data on cotton classification and assessment of yarn
  quality
• Basic research and investigation of various physical properties of
  Textile fibres
• Verify progress in attaining goals in development of new varieties of
  cotton.
• Grading and classification for spot market price of cotton
                  Advantage of HVI Testing
1. The results are independent of the operator
2. The results are based on large volume sample and are therefore more
   significant
3. The fibre data are immediately available
4. The data are clearly arranged
5. The testing of sample is complete in 0.3 minute its very fast testing the
   sample.
            Advance Fibre Information System
• AFIS provideo basic single fibre information. This is based on
aeromechanical fibre processing similar to opening and carding,
followed by electro-optical sensing and then by high speed
  microprocessor-based computing and data reporting.
1. Neps
2. Neps count
3. Neps size
4. Neps removal efficiency (NRE)
5. Length (mm)
6. Length cv%
7. Short fibre index (SFI)
8. Fibre number
9. Tresh
10.Tresh size
AFIS sencer working
                            USE OF AFIS
1. Used for singal fibre testing.
2. Process optimization.
3. Speed, gauges settings.
4. Find NRE , fibre rupture in machine at avery stage in spinning.
5. Know machine performance
6. AFIS data can be used to develop a new control chart.
7. Main use to reduce the overall cost of spinning processes.
                                     Merit of AFIS
1. It minimise the % of fibre waste and yarn imperfection.
2. AFIS controls fibre damage and effectively reduces the short fibre content in carding.
3. In drawing process the slivers are drafted without fibre damage and the long term variations are
   reduced.
4. Combing settings optimissed to achieve the best efficiency with the lowest amount of waste
