SITE DETAILS

• The institute is situated in the Haus Khas institutional zone. It lies on


the way to the Asian games village from the green park.
• Access is from the north-east and south-west sides of the campus.
• Site is irregular in shape and is surrounded by the classical dance
institute, Hauz Khas housing, and Gulmohar park.

• The site was flat land.


• The kund and the levels are all architects’ creations that have changed
the overall site contour.
• The landscape was planned with no trace of any natural growth of
vegetation but the main focus has been given to the hard landscape
neglecting the effectiveness of the soft landscape.

ENTRANCE TO COMPLEX

• Entry to the site is through an inward-looking road with parking bays on either side.
• The entrance is marked double-height entrance.
• The flooring pattern leads towards the entrance foyer.
• The entrance is significant and can be seen from far but not overwhelming as it blends
into the rest of the structure because of its similar look and material.

TRADITIONAL TOWN SQUARE


• A town square is an open public space commonly found in the heart of a
traditional town and used for community gatherings
INDIAN BAZARS
• A bazaar is a permanently enclosed marketplace or street, where goods
and services are exchanged or sold originating from the Persian word
bāzār.
• The term bazaar is sometimes also used to refer to the "network of
merchants, bankers, and craftsmen" who work in that area
CENTRAL KUND
• The central ‘kund’ is reminiscent of the east while step-wells and baolis.
• Earlier, there used to be an actual title water channel which has been
covered up to render the space more usable.
• The kund acts as a space for congregation, where students spill out of their
classes to socialize and interact.
• Activity increases significantly during the evening and lunch hours.

• The vehicular circulation is through a road abutting the site boundary leading to the basement parking.
• The double-height entrance gateway gives way to the academic as well as administrative block reached by a series of
steps.

The entrance plaza with a series of stepped seating and amphitheatre leads to HIGHLY INTERACTIVE INFORMAL

LANDSCAPE / HARDSCAPE

• The kund and the levels are all architects’ creations that have changed the overall site contour.
• The landscape planned with no trace of any natural growth of vegetation but the main focus has been given to the
hard landscape neglecting the effectiveness of the soft landscape.
• In surrounding areas of kund soft landscaping is done and it is paved with cutouts for basement lighting.

• The institute gives a feeling of richly landscaped


environment.
• Site boundary is lined with deciduous and evergreen
trees.
• A series of high and low platforms, soft and hard
landscaping have been used in the amphitheater court.
FAÇADE DESIGN

• Random rubble masonry on plinth and walls.


• Imported float glass as a special material as a non-reflective
glass used as a complete wall.
• Steel frame screened with reflected glass.
• Stone masonry used in the guard’s room.
• Reflected glass used in the façade on the admin block.
