Peripheral devices connect to and work with computers to input and output information. There are three main types: input devices like keyboards and mice that enter data; output devices like monitors and printers that present information; and storage devices like hard disks and cloud storage that permanently save data. Keyboards and mice are common input devices that send signals to the CPU when keys are pressed or the cursor is moved. Monitors display output visually while printers provide hard copies. Hard disks and cloud storage are examples of storage devices that maintain data.

Peripheral devices

A peripheral device is any device that connects to and work with the
computer to either put information into it or get information out of it.

Peripheral devices are also known as peripheral , computer


peripheral, Input-output device.

A peripheral device is any device that connects to the computing unit


but is not the part of core architecture of the computing unit.
Types of peripheral devices

Peripheral devices are classified into three types :-

• Input devices
• Output devices
• Storage devices
Input devices

The devices that are used to enter data and instructions into the
computer system are called input devices.

For example:
• Mouse
• Keyboard
Mouse

Mouse is also an important input device.it is used for controlling


screen cursor.

Mouse is a hand controlled electromechanical device for


interacting with a digital computer that has a graphic user
interface.

Pointing and clicking allows operations to be performed without


having complication.

keyboard

Keyboard is an input device used to enter characters and functions


into the computer system by pressing keys.

Keyboard is made up of push button switches which send a signal to


the CPU each time you press them.

Keyboard standards vary with names like deluxe,natural and


cordless.

Output devices

Output devices take information within your computer and


present it to you in a form that you can understand

For example:

• Monitor
• Printer
Monitor

The monitor or visual display unit(VDU) is the most


commonly used output device. It is like a TV screen.

It can display alphanumeric characters and graphics.The


output provided by monitor is called ‘soft copy’.
Printer

• Printers are used to produce output in the form of text and


graphics on paper .The output on a paper is called ‘hard copy’

Printers are classified into two types:


• 2D printers are used to print text and graphics
• 3D printers are used to create three dimensional project
objects
Storage devices

Those devices which are used to store data,information


and programs permanently

• Hard disk
• Cloud storage
Hard disk

Hard disk is a primary storage device in a computer to


store the programs and data permanently.

It is also known as hard disk drive(HDD) or hard drive(HD).

It is type of magnetic disk.


Cloud storage

Cloud storage is defines as “the storage of data online in the cloud”.

Types of cloud storage


There are four main types of cloud storage.
• Personal cloud storage
• Public cloud storage
• Private cloud storage
• Hybrid cloud storage
