DREAMS
WHAT ARE DREAMS?
➤Adream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and
sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during
certain stages of sleep The content and function of dreams are
not fully understood, although they have been a topic of
scientific, philosophical and religious interest throughout
recorded history.

➤Sigmund Freud, who developed the psychological discipline

of psychoanalysis, wrote extensively about dream theories and
their interpretations in the early 1900s. He explained dreams as
manifestations of one's deepest desires and anxieties, often
relating to repressed childhood memories or obsessions.
Furthermore, he believed that virtually every dream topic,
regardless of its content, represented the release of sexual
tension.

➤ Carl Jung saw dreams as the psyche's attempt to communicate

important things to the individual, and he valued them highly,
perhaps above all else, as a way of knowing what was really
going on. Dreams are also an important part of the
development of the personality

TYPES OF DREAMS

—From the p.o.v of dream analysis—

1. PROCESSING DREAMS
2. PRECOGNITIVE DREAMS
Some research sug
gests up to a
third of people rep
ort some type
of precognitive ex
perience,
often in the form o
f a dream that
seemed to come tr
ue .
3. VENTING DREAMS
These dreams release from us something as simple as a
fight with a friend, boyfriend, or family member that has
heightened our emotions so internally it is eating us up
deep within. Or maybe the dream released from us our
worries over a simple happening that we did not recognise
first as some type of nuisance, but soon realised it was
taking up much of our thoughts or focus in waking. These
help us let go in order to rationalise, heal, and move
forward
4. RECURRING DREAMS
• flying
• falling
• being chased
• being naked
• getting stuck or trapped
somewhere
• losing your teeth
• losing your ability to speak
• showing up late for important
occasion
• moving in slow motion or being
unable to run
• crashing or losing control of a
vehicle
DREAM INTERPRETATION

The Interpretation of Dreams is an 1899 book by Sigmund Freud,

the founder of psychoanalysis, in which the author introduces his
theory of the unconscious with respect to dream interpretation,
HOW TO WRITE A DREAM JOURNAL?
➤ Set an intention to remember your dream before sleeping.
➤ Write down or record the dream with maximum details, as many as you can remember. Do not
try to analyse anything at this point.
➤ Do not miss any little or big symbols, and also do not write your interpretation of them.
➤ The extra attention to dreams that repeat themselves, and note them down each time.
➤ If you know the time of the dream note that down as well.
➤ Do it every day.
➤ To remember effectively wake up 2-3 hours earlier and then go back to sleep.
