Introduction to weaving

■ Weaving is a textile production process that involves interlacing two sets of threads –
the warp threads (running lengthwise) and the weft threads (running crosswise) – to
create a fabric or cloth with various patterns.
1. Tabby weave

■ Tabby weave is a simple and basic weaving technique in which weft threads pass over
and under alternate warp threads. It creates a plain, smooth surface on the fabric and is
often used as a foundation for more complex weaving patterns.
■ Tabby weave is commonly used in various types of textiles and fabrics, ranging from
clothing like shirts, Kurtis etc. and accessories to home furnishings like wall hangers,
coasters.
■ CHARACTERISTICS: Offers smoothness, simplicity and strength that makes it ideal
for various weaving patterns.
■ Minimum shaft: 2
■ I would like to use this in tote bags, pouches and basic shirts.

2. Basket weave

■ Basket weave is a weaving pattern characterized by its checkerboard-like appearance,

created by interlacing multiple warp and weft threads in a way that resembles the
pattern of a woven basket.
■ Basket weave is used in various types of textiles, accessories, crafts, automotive
industry and fabrics, ranging from clothing and accessories to home furnishings.
■ CHARACTERISTICS: The versatility of basket weave, stronger than plain weave,
breathability, durability and aesthetics are important.
■ Minimum shaft: 4
■ I would like to use it to make chair seats and baskets.

3. Twill weave

■ Twill weave is a textile weaving pattern characterized by diagonal lines formed on the
fabric's surface. It's created by weaving weft threads over and under multiple warp
threads in a regular pattern, producing a distinct diagonal effect.
■ Twill weave is commonly used in various types of textiles and fabrics, ranging from
clothing like jeans, uniforms, outwear to home furnishings like table cloth, bed linens.
■ CHARACTERISTICS: It's used in a wide range of applications due to its durability,
flexibility, light weight and easy to care.
■ Minimum shaft: 4
■ I would like to use it to make bath mats, bracelets and coasters.
3.1 Warp faced twill weave

■ Warp faced twill weave is a type of weaving pattern where the diagonal lines or ridges
on the fabric are formed by the arrangement of warp threads. In warp twill, the weft
threads pass over multiple warp threads and then under fewer warp threads, creating the
diagonal pattern.
■ Warp faced twill weave is commonly used in various types of textiles, apparel, crafts,
and fabrics, ranging from clothing and accessories to home furnishings.
■ CHARACTERISTICS: It is used in various applications, offering advantages such as its
distinctive appearance, durability, and flexibility.

5. Extra weft weave

predominantly through the weft threads.
■ Extra weft weave is commonly used in traditional textiles, home decor, accessories, and
