ADOLESCENCE
Transition period of life from childhood to
adult
Starting from 10 to be completed by 19
years of age
Meaning- ‘ to grow up’ or ‘to mature’
Synonyms- TARUNAWASTHA,
KISHORAWASTHA, PUBERTY, TEENAGE
CHANGES in body
Occur in both girls and boys, a year or two
earlier in girls than boys.
They are because of the hormonal changes.

 Adolescents are curious, innovative, exploring and
experimenting. Fascinated by “adult” behaviours;
they are motivated to try out forbidden activities
like rash driving, physical abuse, smoking and
experiments with drugs.
Peer influence outweighs parental affection
 Adolescents need frequent validation by others and
they desperately seek peer acceptance. They are
fiercely loyal to peer group values and peers’
opinions become most influential and guide the
flow of their life.

Desire for independence and prove their
identity
 Anxiously searching for identity, adolescents
attach great importance to status symbols, as
reflected by their possessions and clothing.
• Idealism and confrontation with religion,
traditions and moral value
 Adolescents are idealistic and have strong sense
of fairness. They criticize, challenge and
confront moral values and ask frequent,
ambiguous questions about the meaning of life.
Why this session?
Adolescence is like fireball
Full of anger , instability and uncertainity
YET has tremendous amount of energy,
infinite innovative ideas and strong desire of
achieving lots of goals
So, guiding the FIRE in right way at the right
time can lead to a wonderful human adult at
the end.

A. DIETARY
 BINGE EATING>>>proper eating habits,
healthy nutritious food, avoiding fast food,
ALWAYS healthy breakfast
 ANOREXIA NERVOSA> counselling
 PHOBIA OF GETTING FATTY> because of
self body perception---counselling

B) Emotional and behavioural problems
 Constant communication by parents and teachers
 Always clear your curiosities by asking your teachers ,
parents , elder siblings or GOOD FRIENDS
 Solve your conflicts soon with anybody in a positive
way
 Respect your elders always
 Learn to respect opposite gender equally
 Never bully anyone

C) Social problems
indulgence in forbidden activities like
smoking ,rash driving,physical abuse to
opposite gender or experiments with drugs can
be prevented by
 Avoiding trust on strangers
 Always respect girls as they can be your family
members too
 Always stay away from bad company
 Focus on study, innovative recreational activity
and enjoy them with good company of friends

D) Desire of independence and of being
status symbol
-yes it is their right but many a times it is
not with their parents acceptance.

WHAT DO WE WANT?
--An adolescent transformed into an adult who is
• Physically fit and healthy
• Educationally sound
• Emotionally stable
• Respectable to his/her younger ones
• Kind hearted and obedient
• Desirable by society
• Cheerfull and loving
HUMAN BEING
WHO CAN LIVE HIS/HER LIFE WITH ETERNAL JOY.
