Mackerel
• Mackerel is a common name
for various species of fish in
the Scombridae family,
known for their streamlined
bodies and vibrant,
iridescent scales. This fish is
found in both temperate and
tropical seas, often
swimming in large schools
close to the coast. Mackerel
are fast swimmers, making
them agile predators, and
are a vital part of the marine
food chain, feeding on
smaller fish and plankton
while being prey to larger
species. Rich in healthy fats,
especially omega-3 fatty
acids, as well as vitamins
and minerals, mackerel is
widely valued in cuisines
around the world for its

health benefits and distinct
Tuna
• Tunas vary considerably, both within and among
species. Tunas are elongated, robust, and streamlined
fishes; they have a rounded body that tapers to a
slender tail base and a forked or crescent-shaped tail.
In colour, tunas are generally dark above and silvery
below, often with an iridescent shine.Tuna, opah, and
mackerel sharks are the only species of fish that can
maintain a body temperature higher than that of the
surrounding water. An active and agile predator, the
tuna has a sleek, streamlined body, and is among the
fastest-swimming pelagic fish – the yellowfin tuna, for
example, is capable of speeds of up to 75 km/h
(47 mph). Greatly inflated speeds can be found in early

scientific reports and are still widely reported in the
popular literature.Found in warm seas, the tuna is
• The lifespan of a pufferfish can range
from three to 20 years, with an

Pufferfish
average of 10 years. Their lifespan
can depend on many things,
including the species and their
environment. Pufferfish are very
sensitive to their environments and
can become easily stressed.

• The substance which causes

pufferfish poisoning is
called tetrodotoxin and is found in
the liver and ovaries of pufferfish, as
well as the skin and muscles in some
species. This poison does not get
destroyed during normal heating as
part of cooking.

• Pufferfish may be an appealing food,

but it is also important to remember
that one can lose one's life
depending on how the fish is
prepared. Preparing and eating
fished pufferfish or pufferfish
received from someone else without
the proper professional knowledge is
extremely dangerous.

• Only eat pufferfish prepared by a

licensed professional. In Japan, fugu
chefs undergo three years of training
to prepare pufferfish safely

• Never eat the internal organs of a

pufferfish, such as the liver and
ovaries

Piranha
Piranhas are freshwater
fish native to South
American rivers,
particularly the Amazon
Basin. They are known
for their sharp teeth and
powerful jaws, which
can be used to slice
through food quickly.
Despite their reputation
as fierce predators,
most piranha species
are actually scavengers
or omnivores, eating a
diet of insects, plants,
fruits, and smaller fish.

6
Swordfish
Swordfish are
large, migratory
fish known for
their distinctive
sword-like bills.
Found in warm
ocean waters,
they’re popular in
fishing and
cooking due to
their mild, meaty
texture but are
subject to
conservation
