Fire Detection

System
(FDS)/VESDA

VESDA: Very Early Smoke

Detection & Alarm System
Fire Detection System:
Purpose of installation:
To perform brake application &
announcement for passengers, in case
of Fire or smoke inside the coach.
Fire Detection System:
There are different makes of FDS
systems which are currently running in
ANVT based Primary Trains.
1. M/s Sanrok Enterprises.
2. M/s JK Exim
3. M/s Tayal & Co.
4. M/s Advance Hi-tech 4. Advance

Smoke Testing Procedure: After exposure of smoke, system
will response as mentioned below:
1. Alert: Alert indication will glow.
2. Action: Action light along with Flasher light will glow.
3. Fire: Brake application will occur, brake indication light will
glow, Brake valve indication lights will get OFF. Hooter will
operate inside the coach.
4. After 55 sec of Brake Application, public announcement will
occur inside the coach.
Fire Detection System:
Maintenance activities:
D-1/Trip Schedule:
1. Visual Inspection of Fire Panel, it must be ON, if not
check whether MCB is ON or not.
2. Ensure 03 Green LEDs must glow in case of M/s
Sanrok Make FDS system.
D-2/Monthly Schedule:
3. Check intactness of power supply input voltage from
DC power supply to detector and output voltage
from detector to other devices.
4. Battery back up must be more than 18 Volts.
5. Air flow value must be fn±20%, i.e. fn= Normalized
air flow value
If air flow value< fn-20%, then flush the pipeline
with and check again.
If more than Fn+20%, check intactness of the pipe
& capillary network.
Fire Detection System:
Maintenance activities:
D-3/Monthly Schedule:
Conduct smoke test by simulating smoke generation
from any
monthly source e.g. smoke generator at the farthest
end from the system and verify detector performance as
per maintenance manual.

SS-1 Schedule:
i) Clean the sampling points, sampling pipe and
capillaries by vacuum cleaning
ii) Replace any defective/malfunctioning parts and
carry out smoke test.

SS-2 Schedule:
i) Complete testing of the system including replacement
of must change items (i.e. filter & batteries).
Fire Detection cum
Suppression System
(FDSS)
e Detection cum Suppression System
Purpose of installation & Components:
•To detect, presence of smoke or heat inside the pantry or
power car & activate the alarm buzzer.

•To give the signal to cut off the power supply of DG set
(power car) & electric hob (in pantry car) in case of heat
alarm & activate suppression process.

1. Smoke Detector- 04 Nos.

2 Smoke detectors for 2 DG sets(1 for each)
1 for guard area
1 for Crew area Smoke Detector

2. Heat Detectors- 02 Nos.(1 for each DG set)

Operating temperature- 90°C

3. LHD (Linear Heat Detector) Cable- located

below the ceiling of DG area & Pantry area.

Fire Detection System:
Maintenance activities:
D-1/Trip Schedule:
1. Visual Inspection of Fire Panel, it must be ON, if not
check whether MCB is ON or not.
2. Ensure 02 Green LEDs- Power ON & Health, must glow
in case of M/s Sanrok Make FDS system.
3. Check Nitrogen Pressure: It must not be less than 150
kg/cm2.
4. Smoke & Heat Detectors must blink. RED light must
not glow permanently.

D-2/Monthly Schedule:

5. Check Nitrogen Pressure: It must not be less than 150

kg/cm2.
6. Check physical condition of smoke & heat detectors, if
required, clean it with soft cloth.
Fire Detection System:
Maintenance activities:
D-3/Monthly Schedule:
i) Carry out smoke detection test for point type smoke detector.
ii) Check condition of pipe line. It must be securely clamped. Check
the condition of nozzles.

SS-1 Schedule:
i) Carry out heat detection test for point type heat detectors.
System integrity at least up to activation signal of solenoid valve
to be ensured.
SS-2 Schedule:
Complete testing of the system.
equent Issues with FDSS System :
1. Nitrogen Valve not connected:

Possible Reasons:
1. Nitrogen valve switch is OFF- open the panel & turn ON the
switch.
2. Nitrogen Valve wiring broken- Inform to Vesda Batch.
3. Nitrogen module defective- Inform to Vesda Batch
equent Issues with FDSS System :
1. No supply in FDSS Panel:

Possible Reasons:
1. Main MCB is OFF in Electrical Panel- Switch ON the MCB from
electrical panel.
2. Display connector is disconnected – Open the FDSS panel &
reconnect the connector.
3. If problem not resolved, then inform to VESDA batch.
