including the waist which does not allow the ball to visibly come to a
rest.

one play and the players involved may not participate in the next play.
• A player must not block or attack a serve.

(after the serve only).
Volleyball Technique
1. Service.
Service is the initial capital in building an attack on the
opponent. Good serve can mess up your opponent's
defenses and make it difficult for them to attack you.In
practice, there are 2 types of serve that are known in
volleyball, namely the Underhand and Overhand serve.
*Underhand serve. In this serve, the player hits the ball with
one hand below or at waist level so that the ball bounces
over the net. *Overhand serve. This serve is done by tossing
the ball over the player's head before being hit over the net.
This technique aims to make the ball dive sharply into the
opponent's field of play.
How to do Service ?
*Start in an up-and-back stride with
most of your weight on your back right
foot.
*The left hand holds the volleyball
extended forward and in front of your
right side.
*The shoulder is forward and the right
shoulder is back ready to draw back.
*Toss the ball in front of your right side.
Volleyball Technique
2. Passing.
Passing in volleyball can mean passing to a
teammate. Passing also consists of 2 types, namely
Forearm pass and overhead pass.* Forearm pass.
This technique is carried out if the incoming ball falls
in front or on the side of the body, as high as the
stomach down. *Overhead Passing. This is a ball
passing technique using the tips of the fingers when
the ball comes to shoulder level or above. The goal
is to build attacks so that teammates can spike or
smash.
How to do Passing
• Get into position.
• Create a platform with your arms.
• Use your legs.
• Hit the ball with both arms.
• Move to the ball so that it will
come down squarely in front of
you.
• Pass the ball.
• Aim the ball.
Volleyball Technique
3. Spike (smash).
Spiking is the act of scoring a point by slamming
the ball over the net into the opposing court
effectively and aggressively.
This is the most challenging part of basic
volleyball technique, as you have to maximize
the strength of your hands to make a big hit.
Spike or smash is done to generate points by
dropping the ball through a sharp and swooping
How to do Spike (Smash) ?
• Swing your arms back briskly as you bend your
knees. When you jump, your entire body
should move in one upward swing, putting you
in the best possible position to spike the ball.
Practice jumping as high as you can and spiking
the ball at the height of your jump every time.
Try working with a spike trainer.
Volleyball Technique
• Digging.
To dig a volleyball means you contact and
intercept the ball, while your team is on
defense by deflecting it up in the air with your
arms held together. You defend, or dig the
volleyball once it crosses into your court after
an attack hit by the opposing team, so they
don't score a point.
How to do Digging
• Anticipate and move to the ball.
• Get your forearms under the ball.
• Lean into the ball as you make contact.
• Dig the ball at the midline of your body if you
can.
• If you have to reach outside your body, extend
and angle your arms in the direction of the
target.
Volleyball Technique
• Blocking.
Volleyball blocking is defined as deflecting the ball
coming from your opponent's attack hit. In
addition to attacking, you also have to be good at
defending through block techniques in front of
the net. Blocking is done by raising the hand as
high as possible above the net, in order to hold
the ball hit by the enemy while attacking in front
of the net. Volleyball block rules state that only
three front row players are eligible to block a ball
in the front row during a rally.
How to do Blocking ?
Your feet should be slightly wider than
shoulder-width apart. Bend your knees
slightly so you can move quickly in
either direction. Hold your arms up,
elbows out, palms facing the net at
about eye level. Keep your hands here
whenever the ball is on the other side
because it can cross the net at any time.
