POPULATION
People in the world
By Ms.Jaanvi
🠶 Refer page no.50 (photo A)

🠶 It is a Population distribution map and shows how people

are spread out across the country.
🠶 Population is not evenly spread out.
🠶 Some areas have a lot of people and some with a very
few.
🠶 The map uses density to show how crowded places are.
🠶 Density is the number of people in an area. (usually
given as the number of people per square kilometre.
🠶 Crowded places are said to be densely populated.
🠶 Places with few people are said to be sparsely
populated.
🠶 (Page no 52) Look carefully at photos A to
F and for each one in turn try to work out why it is
likely to be either a densely populated area or a
sparsely populated area.

🠶 DEVELOPING CITIES
🠶 Cities are very popular places where people live.
🠶 They provide housing, jobs, education, medical care, chance to enjoy life.
🠶 The fastest growing cities tend to be in the poorer countries.
🠶 Urban population is expected to double in the next 10 years.

What are the dynamics and structure of human population ?

Population structure and dynamics are the organization and changes of a population over time
and space.
Population structure is the organization of individuals within a population.
Population dynamics is the study of how that population changes( birth rate death rate and
migration ) and population structures around the globe.
Various factors influence the growth of populations and their impact on the
environments . Factors include birth rates, death rates , increased population densities and
access to resources like food, water , shelter and minerals for mining.
Age structure: The distribution of individuals within a population by age
Dispersion pattern: The arrangement of individuals within a habitat
Population density: The number of individuals per unit of space
Population dynamics is the study of how that population changes( birth rate death rate
and migration ) and population structures around the globe.
Population size: The number of individuals in a population
Population growth: The net balance of births, deaths, immigration, and emigration
Population distribution: The arrangement of individuals within a habitat
Demographic transition: The shift from high birth and death rates to low rates as countries
develop
What is Population density?
🠶 Population density is the number of people or organisms that live in a
specific area, usually expressed as the number of people per square
kilometer or square mile. It's a common statistic used in population
studies, and is useful for comparing population distribution between
different regions or cities.
🠶 What it's used for?
🠶 Population studies Population density is a common statistic used to
compare population distribution between different regions or cities.
Ecological studies Population density is important for ecological studies
of an area because it relates directly to population size. Urbanization,
migration, and demographics Population density is discussed in relation
to urbanization, migration, and demographics.
🠶 Who tracks it?
The United Nations Statistics Division tracks population density statistics
globally. Many countries collect their own data on population density,
often through the use of a census.
We know how population
change !
How births and deaths affects the
population growth.
BIRTH RATE AND DEATH RATE
Birth rate is dividing the number of still birth by Number of
total birth .
Death Rate is dividing number of deaths in a given period
by number of population (mid year) per 1000 ( population
exposed to risk of death in that period)
Factors that affect the birth and the death rates

Good harvest
Poor health

More than 1 in 8 billion (7 billion) were born overseas.

• Rapid growth in the number of migrants arriving Britain.

• Most of them are from Eastern Europe.
• The migrants come in search of Job, better life or as Asylum seekers.
• UK government is looking into ways of restricting and controlling the number of immigrants
entering Britain.
