ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF CDOT

HISTORY
In 1994 with the initiation of telecom reforms DoT was established to operate in all parts of India except Delhi and Mumbai In 1997 Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was set up In 1999 DoT was split up and called Department of Telecom Services(DTS) which was corporatized and renamed as BSNL

Broadly DoT is now responsible for policy making , licensing and promotion of private investment and BSNL, a corporate body is responsible for provision of services Later on TDSAT was set up to fairly adjudicate any dispute between licensor and licensee , between service providers and group of consumers .

PRESENT SENARIO
Now Indian Telecom market is one of the fastest growing markets in the world. With its 787.29 million Telephone connection as on 31st December 2010, it is the second largest network in the world after China. It is second largest wireless network in the world.

Wireless telephones are increasing at faster rate. The share of wireless telephones as on 31stDecember 2010 is 95.54% of the total phones. Overall tele-density has reached 66.17%. urban tele-density is about 148%, whereas rural teledensityis at 31.22% which is also steadily increasing. Broadband connections has also i increased to 10.74 million on November, 2010.

MISSION : 1. To design and develop state of the art technologies, products and solutions 2. To meet the telecom needs of India, particularly of national importance in strategic sectors and rural areas VISION : C-DOT to become world class telecom technology development centre

SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGTH
Strong knowledge base in communication area with easy advancement to new technologies Designing cost-effective networks to meet the needs of customers Migration to new technology using already installed systems Technology development with low capital investment Created large reservoir of technical manpower in telecom

WEAKNESS
Slow upgradation of technology Slow progress as have to go through a long procedure ITI, the first company of CDOT is getting ruled out in racing with other telecom comp. in market subscribers had to wait for as long as five years to get a telephone connection High maintenance cost

OPPORTUNITIES
Future technology enhancements & product upgrades Robust technology that can work in extreme environmental conditions Great competition in market among competitors for projects funded by Public Sector Appropriate for the diverse geographic and traffic conditions of developing countries Least turnaround time for modification for new services and other field requirements

THREAT
The new telecom companies coming up with new technologies are giving cut throat competition to C-DOT Various new big projects are being handover to these uprising companies Because of large network established difficult to switch on to new technologies. Few companies like I.T.I they are suffering huge losses

FICCI organised 5 exhibition and conference India Telecom2010 in December 2010 at New Delhi, newspaper, workshop, seminars and traning program.

CHALLANGES
The rural teledensity is still very low There are less than 11 million broadband connections and about 40% of the country does not have wireless coverage Evolution and expansion of emerging telecom technologies like NGN , LTE , Cloud computing etc. Influence to great extent the growth of Telecom Sector Need of encouragement for development of content/application as per the regional requirement for wider and faster penetration of Broadband. Need for promoting R & D, Product Development and indigenous manufacturing

SUGESSTIONS
Telecommunications is one of the fastest-growing areas of technology in the world By including telecommunications in their operations, businesses can provide better services and products to their customers For individuals, telecommunications provides access to worldwide information and services With the help of telecommunication worldwide opportunity came into picture. Industries like BPO, KPO are established and working on the core concept of telecommunications
