Sonic Prime, the CGI-animated show on Netflix, concluded earlier this year after three seasons and tons of toys. In total, there were sixteen 5" figures released and thirteen 2.5" figures. And that was all in a short 9-month period between July 2023 and March 2024. The theatrical movies only get a fraction of those numbers, so Prime had quite a big push in the merchandising department. There were seven female figures total, and this final figure, the 5" Batten Rouge is one I photographed way back in March but never got around to posting. This cartoon had a multiverse gimmick (the Shatterverse) that presented the main characters in a variety of thematic alternate realities. The "No Place" world featured a lot of pirate-deco'd characters, including one of my favorite Sonic ladies, Rouge the Bat. This figure is nearly identical to her 2.5" version released in 2023, so I don't have a lot to say about her (one of the reasons I postponed this review), but this truly is a cool toy on her own merits. Sonic Prime - BLACK ROSE!
This has been crazy years for Amy Rose. This figure is her seventh in the last twelve months. (And there is possibly another coming out shortly, but no photos yet to know for sure if it's new). The 2022 Sonic: Prime series on Netflix played a big part in this Amy boom. The series uses a multiverse plot device wherein differently-themed versions of the main characters exist in each area of the "Shatterverse." This figure is the third variation of Amy we've gotten from Jakks so far - this time in her pirate motif from the No Place dimension. I don't normally love collecting "costumey" versions of classic characters, but something about these brings me joy. I just hope they play catch-up and give us more versions of Rouge. There will be a 5" Batten Rouge in Wave 4, but I greedily want them all. And I feel like any day we'll hear more news about the Sonic 3 movie and I'm hoping for some female characters finally. But in the meantime the Shatterverse variants are keeping me busy. Let's check out Black Rose below!

Sonic Prime - BATTEN ROUGE!
It's funny to think that a few short years ago, Rouge that Bat seemed to be one of the most fan-demanded Sonic characters for inclusion in a toy line. The Jazwares line from 10 years ago often had rumors of a Rouge, but nothing ever materialized. So instead it was the elusive 2005 Toy Island figure that became a grail for collectors and fueled the demand for an updated version. But since last year, Jakks Pacific has been answering our prayers and has given us two classic Rouge figures (in both 4" and 2.5" scale) as well as this 2.5" pirate-themed Batten Rouge from Sonic: Prime. Plus there is at least one more coming soon (a 5" version of this design). I'm personally hoping for a Prim Rouge figure with her cool leafy design from the Boscage Maze portion of the Shatterverse. But I'm thrilled with anything. It's a shame that these 2.5" figures from Sonic: Prime only seem to be coming in multipacks. But so far my excitement over the characters has overtaken my frugal nature. Let's check out Batten Rouge below!

Batman Earth 11 - THE DROWNED!
Bryce Wayne is the "Batman" of the gender-flipped Earth 11. Her lover, Sylvester Kyle, was killed by rogue metahumans and she went on a violent revenge spree to kill every metahuman. She was blinded by vengeance and achieved her goal in 18 months. But then the Atlanteans returned from exile to propose a treaty with Batwoman. Bryce saw them as another metahuman menace and murdered Aquawoman (with her own trident). The Atlanteans retaliated by flooding Gotham. Bryce was unhindered and began manipulating/enhancing her own DNA with Atlantean - becoming The Drowned. In this form, she could breathe underwater, and also gained a type of hydrokinesis which allowed her to turn her enemies into ravenous beasts under her command. The whole Dark Nights: Metal storyline is filled with dark, twisted versions of DC characters - which is the natural aesthetic for McFarlane Toys. I knew from that first comic that we would get this toy. Let's check out The Drowned below!

My Little Pony - CAPTAIN CELAENO!
I've made several serious attempts in my life to become a Brony. It's a life I can totally see myself diving into. And all my friends (at least the ones who know about my toy obsessions) assume I already am one. But I just couldn't ever get into the show and the toys just haven't drawn me in the way I would expect. But every now and then I see an MLP toy that excites me and I'll hunt it down. This figure of Captain Celaeno from My Little Pony the Movie was definitely one of those. The unfortunate thing is that this Walmart-exclusive figure never really hit the stores. As far as I can tell she was only released in Canada... until a few weeks ago when I found her FiveBelow! I mean, if you have to wait two years to find a sought-after toy at retail, that's definitely a satisfying conclusion to the hunt. Captain Celaeno is an anthropomorphic parrot pirate voiced by Zoe Saldana. I'm kind of obsessed with her design. The green plumage and crystal peg leg are so cool to me. Plus the overall sculpt is great. Let's check her out below!

The Girls of Power Rangers SUPER MEGAFORCE!
I love the Power Rangers. I'm not sure why. I rarely, if ever, watch the show. I don't know half the themes or plotlines. What I do love is the stylized thematic costumes, the color patterns, and the cool action figures. The most recent series of Super Mega Force toys hit the shelves in the past couple weeks. Aside from the general fact that I was unaware these figures were coming out, I was more taken aback by the new 5" scale. Since the MMPR rebooted toyline in 2010, the toy aisles have seen the constant presence of a (seemingly successful) 4" action figure line. I have most of the figures from MMPR, Samurai, Super Samurai, and Megaforce, so I am mildly disappointed in the style change with Super Megaforce (just for the sake of collecting continuity). But the figures themselves are very high quality as I've come to expect with Bandai. Fun note: the gimmick of the Super Megaforce show is that the characters can become any past ranger of their color. Maybe that will be a gateway to a plethora of retro rangers?? We'll have to wait and see...

Caribbean Queen ANNE BONNY!
Anne Bonny was born in Ireland in the late 1600s to early 1700s. Her family came to America when she was very young, but the New World just wasn't the dream life they had expected. Her mother died, her father disowned her, and her fiery temper (and fiery red hair) became legendary when she burned down her father's plantation in rebellion (and supposedly stabbed a servant with a kitchen knife). As a teenager, she and her husband left for Nassau in the Bahamas. This was a notorious pirate sanctuary at the time, and before long Anne had left her husband for an infamous pirate named Calico Jack and joined him on his (stolen) ship, the Revenge. They were successful pirates for many years in the Caribbean. She is documented as having fought valiantly alongside the men, not to have disguised her gender (as some suggest), and quickly earning the respect of the crews she sailed with. She was a well-known wanted pirate for many years until her capture by a Jamaican vessel in 1720.
