This is not a MTB trail, a Rail-trail, or a road ride. What it is is unique, and an all weather ride.
Closed in 1968 this was part of the PA Pike. Although there were plans to turn it into a nice paved bike path. For now it has been left to nature to take care of. Although there is enough pavement left for road bikes, wider tires would be recommended. There are 2 tunnels 3/4 and 1 1/4 miles long, requiring the use of lights. For liability reasons the trail is "officially closed" but is really open. For more info and history.

I had fun. Even though this is not a mtb trail there is still plenty of singletrack nearby. For more information see the Buchanan State Forest website through the PA DNR
Thank |Trail is now seeing regular maintenance.
Thank |We stopped here on the way to the Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake. It was worth the extra travel time to ride through the two tunnels. At one point in the longer tunnel we shut the bike lights while still riding. I don't advise this, but it was fun.
Thank |What a great place to ride on a hot humid day, could just do laps in the tunnel. Neat to see how Mother Nature os reclaiming the road.
Thank |Pretty cool change of pace. except for the trail between parking and roadway easy riding. Significant elevation change but modest grades.
Thank |Abandoned turnpike highway with 2 really cool, and long tunnels. Out and back. Really cool with the family. Take lights into the tunnel as it gets pretty dark in there. Road bikes will have to zigzag around the grass growing up on the trail.
