GKrellM 2.5.1 has been released.

Most notable changes are:

• Fixes for BSD and Solaris systems
• The remote mail check over SSL/TLS now verifies server certificates and shows errors when the connection fails
• Several fixes for the Meson build rules

GKrellWeather 2.2.1 has been released.

Shortly after the last release there’s now version 2.2.1 with a bunch of smaller improvements:

• Use Cairo for drawing
• Disable use of deprecated GLib/GTK API
• Port unit tests to GLib test API
• Use GLib log functions for debug and warning messages
• Replace third-party mkgmtime code with system API to convert time formats
• Several smaller code cleanups

This version will also be part of the next GkrellM for Windows release which will happen as part of the GKrellM 2.5.1 release.

GKrellWeather (fork) 2.2.0 has been released.

This is the first release after having worked on this for several years on and off. As the title suggests, this is a fork of GKrellWeather 2.0.8 that got started after not seeing any activity for several years and smaller bugreports and patches accumulating in various Linux distribution packages.

Initially the fork started out as a way to get GKrellWeather working on Windows, i.e. without the need for Perl. That resulted in a METAR parser written in plain C, downloading data via GLib/GVFS and a rewritten configuration UI which was actually shown in an old post about Embedding GtkBuilder files in GTK+ 2.x.

GKrellM 2.5.0 has been released.

Most notable changes are:

• Support for power sensors on Linux
• Meson build rules which are meant to replace the aging Makefile build rules
• Removal of code for very old platforms (Linux < 3.0, FreeBSD < 10, Windows < 7, gtop)
• Various other code and Makefile cleanups

As part of the server migration the git hosting at git.srcbox.net now also changed places but not only that. In addition to running on a new machine the software for this service also changed from Gitea to Forgejo.

The decision whether to stick with Gitea (and upgrade to a newer version) or to switch to Forgejo took several months as well as some migration experiments in a local VM but in the end the hassle-free migration to Forgejo made me do the switch. With the Fedora project also migrating to Forgejo I’m more confident that the Forgejo project will have enough traction to keep up with the ever-changing requirements. I still remember hosting git using gitolite and cgit which was nice at the time but lacks features that one takes for granted since GitHub and GitLab are around.
