Jill (ドリ・くるり, Dori Kururi) is the main character of the Game Boy Advance game Drill Dozer.
Origin[edit]
Jill is the sole playable character and anti-hero of Drill Dozer for the Game Boy Advance, her only non-Smash Bros. appearance. She is the daughter of Doug, who is the leader of the Red Dozers, a group of thieves comprised of the mechanic Gearmo, the elderly mentor Grutch, Jill, and Doug. Jill is said to be good at sports, but have poor grades overall at school, and due to her criminal nature, must hide her secret identity from her classmates, using a 2000s-era cell-phone that comes out of her backpack to communicate with her guild - though she still has to dodge being caught "talking to her backpack". She pilots a Drill Dozer, a small mech suit with two arms that form into a big drill, which she has owned for a long time, being her crib as an infant. She spent her toddler years playing with her Drill Dozer in a specialised duck building shaped like a paper-bag-headed snail character who makes infrequnt appearances as a visual motif in the game, which serves as the game's tutorial level.
It is said that for years many groups of thieves have been in search for the Red Diamond, which is a powerful diamond that would grant its owner any wish, and one of five diamonds with magical properties. Luckily Doug's wife was the person who found it and gifted it to Jill before she died. Though the Red Dozers are a group of thieves, they are kindhearted and only protect the diamond instead of using it for corrupt wishes - to the point of even refusing to use it for harmless or noble wishes. Jill is temporarily given the role of boss to reclaim the Red Diamond from the Skullkers, a gang of thieves lead by the masked figure Croog, who are paying the local police force to arrest any rival gang, while her father is taken out of commission, additionally encountering other strange villains, such as a mad scientist who invented the "Drizzler", a machine that controls weather, and the Magnet Sisters, two elderly sisters who share a flying mech. In the penultimate stage of the game, Jill is arrested using a decoy police truck that imitates the Red Dozers', and her Drill Dozer comes to life to escape confiscation and break out Jill, though the game is ambiguous as to whether it is actually alive or was just possessed by the ghost of Jill's mother. Jill is assisted by previous antagonist Detective Carrie, who had gone insane during her prior boss fights due to exposure to the Yellow Diamond, and having retained sanity, opposed the police's connections to the Skullkers and Jill being arrested without a trial. In the final confrontation with Croog, Jill's Drill Dozer breaks down and she is forced to simply punch him in the face, causing his mask to crack and revealing him to be one of Jill's schoolmates (seen as a background cameo in the prologue comic bundled with the game), having had his "brattiness amplified" by the Black Diamond. At the end of the game, Jill is given the permanent role of Red Dozer boss, as the Red Dozers seek a new adventure to rebuild their home, which was destroyed by a missile during Croog's final attack, using stolen treasures, while the Yellow and Blue Diamonds retrieved earlier are stolen by the Magnet Sisters. The Red Dozer truck is also totalled, but thustly repaired by Gearmo and updated to have more trailers. After the credits, the player is given a thief grade depending on how much of the game is completed, with higher scores getting a positive response from Doug and negative response from Carrie, while lower scores get vice versa.
The Drill Dozer can drill, jump, slide, and in certain stages swim and fly. Throughout a stage Jill will have to collect gears so she can shift up the drill into second and later third gear, this allows her to break more durable walls and drill indefinitely. Drilling serves multiple purposes, with its main purposes being to take down enemies and destroy things blocking Jill's path. When the Drill Dozer is on its own, it lacks the ability to jump, but can instead power itself off in stealth mode.

Jill rides around the stage on her Drill Dozer, its drill spinning and continuously dealing 1% damage and low knockback to opponents hit by it. Jill occasionally jumps, though not high enough to reach most upper platforms. Jill despawns after a while, though she can also fall off ledges. She has a unique animation when she comes into contact with a wall, plunging her drill into it, and then removing it from the wall while generating a lot of dirt.
Jill despawns after 990 frames. When she initially spawns, she slams the two drill halves together which deals 6%. When turning or running into a wall she deals 10% damage and moderate knockback. She has an initial speed 0.5 units per frame (u/f) and accelerates at 0.01 u/f per frame up to 1.5 u/f. She targets the closest opponent to her and re-selects a target after 240-360 frames. If her target is more than 67 units away, she will shift gears up and accelerate at 0.03 u/f up to 1.8 u/f—she doesn't keep the higher speed once back in range and will drop back down to 0.5 u/f. She has a jump force of 2.4 and a gravity of 0.09, giving her a jump height of 30.81 units.
When Jill spawns, she shouts "ni!", and when shifting up she exclaims "san!" (translating to "two" and "three") - these are voice lines from the original Japanese version of Screw Breaker, in which she would say the numbers upon acquiring the respective gears. These voice clips were removed in localizations of Drill Dozer, but remain in all versions of Brawl.
Jill's character design in Smash is taken from her appearance in larger in-game sprites and core promotional art, in which she is drawn with somewhat small eyes, as opposed to Ken Sugimori's larger-eyed depictions seen in the game's bundled comic and illustrations released on the game's Japanese website, or her gameplay sprite design which possesses grey eyes without sclera.
