Portland State honors the legacy of Avel Gordly, the first Black woman elected to the Oregon State Senate. A proud alumna, former professor, and honorary degree recipient, Gordly was a champion for mental health and criminal justice reform. Her impact lives on through her mentorship and dedicated community advocacy.

Marking the program's first musical in over a decade, PSU Theater Arts presents the Tony Award-winning rock musical "Spring Awakening" from Feb. 27 to March 7. The production features a student cast and a live seven-piece band performing a powerful coming-of-age story at Lincoln Performance Hall. Tickets are available now.

With communication delays making real-time 911 calls from space impossible, PSU Assistant Professor Banafsheh Rekabdar is developing a NASA-funded AI system to monitor astronaut health. The project creates personalized baselines to detect subtle medical anomalies, ensuring crews remain safe during deep-space exploration.
