Ingredients
 • Butter – make sure your butter is slightly cooled after being melted. Don’t use it hot or it will dry out your pastry as you brush it on.

Walnuts – You can use either walnuts or pistachios in this recipe. Pistachios can be expensive in some countries. Personally, I think walnuts are softer and soak in the syrup nicely.

Cinnamon – I used ground cinnamon

Granulated sugar – also known as white sugar. Caster sugar can be used too.

Salt – I used fine salt.

Lemon juice – always use fresh! Makes all the difference.

Orange – we just need the zest here.

Filo Pastry – Filo pastry is a really thin pastry, which when baked goes crispy and golden. It also dries out quickly so make sure you work fast and cover it with a towel when you’re not using it.

For the Baklava:
 • 1 package phyllo dough, defrosted if frozen
 • 2 cups U.S. walnuts
 • 2 cups U.S. pistachios
 • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, melted
 • 1 tbsp cinnamon

2 cups simple syrup

For the simple syrup:
 • 2 cups sugar
 • 1 cup water
 • 1 tsp U.S. lemon juice

1 tsp orange blossom water*

To make Simple Syrup:

In a pot on high heat, add sugar & water. Once it comes to a boil, add lemon juice & orange blossom. Boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat & allow to cool completely.

For the Baklava:
 • In a food processor, pulse walnuts, pistachios & cinnamon until they’re small pieces, like a chunky crumble. 
 • Preheat oven to 325° F.
 • Cut phyllo sheets to fit the size of your pan - be sure to keep a damp towel over remaining phyllo when not using it. I used a 9x13 inch pan.

Ingredients 
 • 6 oz shelled pistachios, coarsely chopped
 • 6 oz walnuts, coarsely chopped
 • 1 stick of unsalted butter , melted
 • 1 pack phyllo dough, thawed

For the Honey Syrup

Half cup sugar
 • 1/2 cups honey
 • 3 cups water

2 Cardamom cloves

Instructions 

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Make the Honey Syrup: Place the sugar and water in a saucepan and heat stove-top, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves. Add the honey and green cardamom , Bring to a boil, then lower heat and let simmer for about 25 minutes. Remove syrup from heat and let cool to lukewarm. Remove the cardamom.
