Layne Johnson // FINE ART on Instagram: "This is an Imprimatura-Bistre - the “first layer” of paint that I believe is critical if you want luminosity in your paintings… and it's the way I start all my daytime landscape paintings. For the Imprimatura, I’m using Transparent Earth Red oil paint thinned with odorless mineral spirits. For the Bistre I’ve rubbed out highlights with a simple paper towel. And like magic, a painting comes to life! {I'm working on another project, so I'm going to be sharing this painting from earlier this year.} Seriously, if you want to learn about this Imprimatura-Bistre underpainting technique, be sure to grab a copy of my ebook -- "Begin With an Imprimatura" -- explains everything, including a step-by-step guide. {It's free.} Link in bio, Highlights, or Stories Underpainting Technique, Red Oil, Paint Thinner, Mineral Spirits, Paper Towel, Landscape Paintings, Oil Painting, Fine Art, Paint

Leon Doucette on Instagram: "Sharing a bit of the process behind this painting. The early stages are pretty self evident I think- mostly establishing placement with simple lines. Then comes the “closed grisaille” stage, which involves establishing the values and (to some degree) textures using only black and white paint. It’s called “closed” when you use it more opaquely to bury the warmer imprimatura, creating an opportunity to manually introduce color through glazing. I love the indirect painting process and am happy to share if you guys have any questions. #wipart #oilpainting #traditionalart #portrait #oilportrait #stepbystep #behindthescenes #paintingprocess #portraitdrawing #workinprogress #art #artwork #arttip #oilpainting #artadvice #realistpainting #portraitpainter #learntopaint" 3d Portrait, Art Advice, Oil Portrait, Painting Process, White Paint, Learn To Paint, Art Tips, Simple Lines, White Paints
