It's time for another installment in one of our favorite series, Take Me Back! This is where we take an in-depth look at one design from one Season. Today we're looking back to the Analagous Color theme and geeking out on all the details of Kelly from Sew a Little Seam's City Sunset look in Season 23 Week 1.
Everything about this look is so good! It's really the little details that pull it all together and make it pop. I know my kids would wear these clothes on repeat, how about yours? Let's look at each make, starting with his clothes.
If you know us, you know we love POLOs! They're so classic, can be dressed up or down, and are quite satisfying to sew.
Polo pattern: His shirt can be replicated exactly using the Parfait Polo pattern. No changes needed. Love it when it's this easy!
Polo fabric: This high quality orange cotton lycra jersey would be perfect (and stand up to the wear and tear it would surely receive.) The contrast is yellow cotton lycra jersey.
Polo patches: Any patches would work, but this fun Harry Potter Gryffindor patch would fit the color scheme, wouldn't it!
And then there's that fun and super cool pair of shorts. Here's how you could recreate them:
Shorts pattern: There are several in the shop that would work great, but we would use the Bacca Bootcuts pattern because it would be SO comfortable for him! Just lengthen the shorts to the knee, and you're done!
Shorts fabric: This coral super stretch denim would make your life easy and his comfortable!
Shorts tie: Use this pre-made yellow cording, and presto! you're finished!
Her little outfit is so sweet! Lucky for you, we've figured out how to replicate it almost exactly! Let's start with that adorable sweater top.
Sweater pattern: Since calculating the ruffle may be the most complicated part of making this top, we'd suggest using the Robin Dress pattern as the ruffle is already incorporated into that pattern. You'd simply cut if off below the waistband and add a waistband to finish the dress.
Sweater fabric: Because the Robin Dress is drafted for wovens, you would get the boxy look of this sweater by using knit fabric. We chose this delightful ribbed sweater knit in just the right shade of coral.
Underneath the sweater is that darling pair of shorts! NO wonder she has such a huge smile!
Shorts pattern: The TinTin Shorts and Trousers pattern is a shoo in for this look. It already has the tie, belt loops, pockets and cuffs!
Shorts fabric: This bright broadcloth fabric would be just the right color and weight for a pair of shorts. It would hold the pleats, but yet be flexible enough for her to move around.
Shorts tie: You could take a shortcut and use the same yellow cording you used on his shorts, or use this bright satin ribbon.
Here it is all together in one place:
Location, styling and photography: Kelly stayed true to her theme here by taking amazing quality photos in the city near sunset. What more could be needed? Her kids are wearing everyday shoes, so the emphasis is on the clothes...great choice!

It's time for another installment in one of our favorite series, Take Me Back! Today we're going to do a deep dive into the Athleisure: Blurring the Lines by Sweeter Than Cupcakes for the Nothing But Knit theme in Season 11 Week 1.
This look is just so cozy and makes us want to copy it RIGHT NOW! It's got enough relaxed vibe to be worn over and over again, and enough special details to make it SO special! Let's break down all 3 pieces of this look starting at the jacket.
We've got to admit we have a huge weakness for jacket sewing! The proportions are so good on this one and it's absolutely perfect for throwing on after a workout, or on a chilly morning.
Structured knit jacket with quilted details resources:
Jacket pattern: The Caraway Cardigan is a great place to start on for this look. It has a longer length version, pockets, and an option for a button front. Adding the oversize accent collar would be quite easy using this tutorial.
Jacket fabric: This super soft yet structured sweatshirt fleece in a dark navy is exactly right for this application. You can either quilt your own fabric for the pocket and collar, or use prequilted fabric like this good quality one.
Jacket buttons: These oversize grey buttons will be the perfect statement closures that make this jacket really pop!
Under the jacket is this adorable color blocked peplum top! It's got so many cute details, and luckily for you, we've know how to replicate it exactly!
Colorblock peplum resources:
Peplum pattern: The most complicated part of the colorblock in this pattern is those curved side stripes, so we suggest starting with a pattern that already has those designed in...the Via Top, Tunic and Dress. Then just add the top color block (or use the Nini Noni Nightwear pattern) and the peplum which can both be straight lines. Here is another good tutorial on colorblocking.
Peplum fabric: We have sourced the exact fabric that Courney used for this top, so you can copy her to a tee! (Get it, to a tee...on a t-shirt?!? Okay, we'll stop.) The 3 fabric are all from Art Gallery Fabrics solid knit line and they are deep dark ocean, icy mint, and coral reef colors.
Finally there are those sensational leggings! Again, we have the exact information you need.
Leggings pattern: The Dressage Leggings with almost no changes except adding piping! Here is a tutor you need all about adding piping.
Leggings fabric: Again Art Gallery Fabric knit solid fabric is a perfect match here. This color way is Tin Tint, and is perfect leggings fabric.
Leggings piping: Use this navy blue piping and you're set to go.
Here it is, all in one place:
Location, Styling and Photography: It looks like she just paused to catch her breath in the middle of a great jog, doesn't it? The location definitely takes back stage here so the clothes can shine! The hair style is no nonsense and out of the way, again placing emphasis on the garments. The poses are just right (lots of angles always make a good photo) yet looks so natural an un-posed!

Are you ready for another walk back to another awesome look? Today we're going to really enjoy a deep dive into the A Little Jane look by It's Always Autumn for the Spring Break theme in Season 9 Week 2.
Today this look makes us gasp just as much as it did when we first saw it come up on our screen! This little lady and her outfit are so charming! Let's break this look down. There are 3 garments represented here, and each of them is SO good! Let's start with that jacket...
What an amazing little jacket! It has just the right proportions on this cute child. How is is both on trend and classic at the same time?
Cropped moto jacket pattern: The Moto Jacket pattern in the shop is just perfect for this! You might want to add some lapels, or leave it just as is. And adding that elastic across the back hem would be pretty easy too.
Cropped moto jacket fabric: We found the perfect grass green Ventana Twill from Robert Kaufman! And do you see that cute pop of colorful lining? This Mammoth Flannel plaid rust fabric, also from Robert Kaufman is just the right weight and warmth to use.
Next up we have some cute cropped jeans and a darling dressy raglan tee.
Jeans pattern: The Star Boy Skinny Jeans pattern is for boys AND girls, and is really worth the time and effort to sew them. Your child will thank you...profusely!
Jeans fabric: This Indigo Super Stretch Denim fabric is the perfect weight and structure for jeans they're wear (but not wear through) all day long!
Dressy Raglan Tee pattern: The Aurora Raglan pattern is the one you want for sure. The way to do it is cut out two fronts, one a shirt length from the jersey fabric we recommend, and one at tunic length from the lace. Then sew them both together onto the sleeves.
Dressy Raglan Tee sleeve fabric: We can vouch for the softness of this Laguna stretch cotton jersey pink knit fabric. It's almost too good to waste use on kids!
Dress Raglan Tee shirt front & back fabric: This tri-blend jersey knit fabric in white will have the perfect drape and recovery to be exactly what you need here.
Dressy Raglan Tee lace overlay fabric: Did someone say no hemming required? We've sourced the perfect lace for that feminine overlay, and the already finished edge means no hemming for you!!!
Here it is all in one place:
Location, Styling, and Photography: We don't know where the photos for A Little Jane were taken, but we want to go there because we're pretty sure it's a dreamy English garden, don't you think? The styling took to heart the philosophy of just add sausage curls and you're in Jane Austen's world!! And as usual, Autumn's photography is stunning. Placing the sun behind the child to get that flare halo (or whatever the technical term is) is absolutely perfection.

It's time for another Take Me Back walk down memory lane! Let's take a good long look at the Serengenti Tanzania look by Celina of Petit a Petit/Ensemble Patterns from Season 9 Week 1: Put Me in the Zoo challenge.
Where do we even start on a look this fantastic? It's just so cool, and everything we've come to love and respect from Celina. Her style is so unique, that we are left with our mouths hanging open! It's the details that keep up coming back for another look over and over again. And years later we find ourselves trying to copy something she originally inspired us with.
There are 6 garments (and that adorable little bird purse!) represented in this look. They're each so fun, and we've broken them down for you so you can create one or all of them too! Let's start with the brother's look.
Let's start with the uber cool zookeeper! This timeless boiler suit look has some extra special touches. Don't worry, we've sourced everything you see...
Zookeeper Boilersuit pattern: You're going to have to combine two patterns to make this garment. For the top part, use the blouse version of the Maybelle pattern. And the bottom is almost exactly the Super Tough Jeans pattern. Of course you'd have to add some cargo pockets to the top, so here's a great tutorial for that.
Zookeeper Boilersuit fabric: Using some Robert Kaufman twill fabric in moss color would be the perfect weight and fabric for this garment. And then you'll need some fun striped ribbon for trimming. Plus don't forget the delightful animal patch.
Zookeeper hat pattern: The Fell and Dale Cap pattern is actually the perfect pattern, you just don't do the step where you attach the brim to the cap!
Zookeeper hat fabric: Cheetah print fabric in a gray color. Done!
Next up is the little ballerina hippo. I mean, can you even?!?!?! Let's break down her fun look from to p to bottom...
Hippo bonnet pattern: The Evergreen Bonnet pattern from Twig and Tale is a perfect fit. (No pun intended...okay maybe trying to be a little punny here!
Hippo bonnet fabric: This grey faux leather would most likely have the right amount of both softness and structure for a darling bonnet. Plus the oversize satin ribbon is a MUST add detail.
Hippo Jacket pattern: This might surprise you, but it was those darling shoulder ruffles that got us thinking. If you use the Alice Top & Dress Pattern, but switch the back and the front so the zipper is in the front, it's a pretty close match! It'd probably be a good idea to go up a size for outerwear though.
Hippo Jacket fabric: This grey faux leather would most likely have the right amount of both softness and structure for the jacket too. Do you see that darling pop of lining inside? This pink linen wide stripe fabric would be a great match.
Hippo Leotard pattern: Just like with big brother, we're going to combine two patterns at the waist to create this darling leotard. We suggest Abby's Spin + Twirl Top & Dress for the top half, and Frances Leggings for the bottom.
Hippo Leotard fabric: This grey double brushed poly jersey fabric would be SO cozy and soft for a leotard!
Hippo Tutu pattern: Because of the layers of tulle, Abby's Ballerina Skirt would be a great pattern to use. Just cut the front NOT on the fold, and you've got the cute front opening. You'll also want to cut all the layers of tulle the same length, or close to it.
Hippo Tutu fabric: Layers and layers of pink, fuchsia, and purple tulle will create the cutest hippo ballerina tutu!
Alright, here it is together:
Location, Styling and Photography: The location is indoor with some soft side lighting. Or at least we think that's what it is because we can hardly take our eyes off that cardboard giraffe. The burning question is, did Celina and her talented kids make that too? How may refrigerator boxes did it take? Where is the giraffe now? (My kids want to know...) That adorable bird purse, we're at a loss to know how to create it, but think this tutorial might be a good place to start. Celina's kids are definitely used to being in front of a camera (she's an amazing photographer) but playing the part of the wild animal is the perfect way to get them to relax and get super fun poses happening! The shoes are so good too, don't you think?
