Homeowner Help & Guidance

Damp Control

Damp problems affect many thousands of UK properties each year. For the many homes and properties affected by damp, more often than not, unless some form of remedial damp control or treatment is applied these damp issues tend to gradually get worse over time.

As the trade body for the industry, PCA members have the necessary skills needed to diagnose, report on and repair buildings affected by various sources of dampness in order to restore your home to a safe and dry condition.

Flood Protection

Changing weather patterns in the UK have brought the importance of protecting your home from flooding into stark focus. Flooding is already the most common form of natural disaster in the UK and all predictions suggest that widespread flooding and flash flood events are set to increase.

To respond to this growing threat and to find out what you can do to protect your home and property, visit our flood related section.

Flood Restoration

For victims of flooding, effective and fast flood restoration and repairs generally cannot come fast enough.  All too often, repairs for flood affected buildings are undertaken by builders who do not have the specialist knowledge necessary to ensure the right restoration strategy is in place, and without due consideration given to flood protection in the future.

As a result, the number of sites where ground gas investigation and the provision of reliable protection solutions grows. To meet this need an increasing number of practitioners are now delivering services that will be critical to the health and wellbeing of the workers and occupants of at risk of ground gas within buildings.

Invasive Weed Control

Invasive weed control is critical to preventing invasive non-native plants like Japanese Knotweed from overwhelming residential gardens, invasive bamboo species disrupting hard landscape features, buddleia clinging from buildings or Giant Hogweed causing a risk to human health. Our members are certified professionals dedicated to providing exceptional services in the identification, treatment, and management of invasive non-native plants.

With decades of collective experience, PCA members have successfully managed and eradicated invasive non-native plants across thousands of sites. They bring a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise to every project, utilising advanced techniques and innovative strategies to address even the most challenging infestations.

As a section within the Property Care Association (PCA), our focus on invasive non-native plant control ensures that our members adhere to the highest standards of excellence, offering comprehensive and effective solutions for all clients.

Residential Ventilation

Home ventilation is required to tackle damp and mould problems associated with poor indoor air quality in both new builds and older properties.

Given the potential problems that damp and stale atmospheres can inflict on buildings and the wellbeing of occupants, The Property Care Association (PCA) has established the Residential Ventilation Group (RVG) in order to ensure that those who require professional home ventilation services have a place to find contractors.

Structural Repairs

Structural repair is sometimes necessary to secure and restore buildings that are displaying signs of deterioration or when the property has suffered from environmental hazards such as subsidence or water damage from flooding.

Property Care Association (PCA) members who specialise in structural repair are trained and qualified to undertake building inspections and provide corrective measures to address structural defects in all types of buildings.

Structural Waterproofing

Structural waterproofing to ensure buildings remain watertight is a complex procedure. Along with taking into consideration each structures unique design and build type, an extensive knowledge and understanding of the technical specifications of various waterproofing methods is required.

As the trade body for the industry, the Property Care Association ensures that our structural waterproofing members are fully qualified, accredited and experienced to take on even the most complicated of waterproofing projects.

Timber Rot & Woodworm

Timber decay and woodworm can affect buildings of all ages. If you find that timbers in your property have come under attack from dry rot, wet rot or woodworm, then it may be the case that some form of timber treatment is required to ensure the life expectancy of the timber

As the trade body for the industry, the Property Care Association (PCA) has members that are qualified and regularly vetted to certify that they possess extensive experience in timber treatment for both structural and decorative timber.
